Hi and thanks in advance for any assistance!

For years, I've been stuck at my ancestor Francis Mayton Snook Francis Mayton Snook

While DNA has provided me with some relief and connections UPLINE (4 generations) from Francis, it's still a mystery who his parents might be.

While I am fortunate to had some military (Civil War) records available which has helped piece together his wife and children, finding anything else up or across his tree has been difficult. One small nugget in his Civil War file is a hand written note "May 25 '85" J. S. Snook informed of death of his cousin F. M. Snook. If I take "cousin" literally, there are multiple J. S. Snook in the tree, but I think the only one that might fit would be the son of Wilson H Snook, John S Snook who was born around the same date.

FYI - I have ruled out the Francis son of Byron Snook who is much younger and born in a different part of Ohio. My Snooks are from Western Ohio, almost to the Indiana state line.

I did some research and found this out. He was born abt 1846 and was also known as Finis Snook. His father, Francis was born in Germany. His mother was born in Italy and her maiden name was Gordon. He married Allie Murrell in 1877. Allie was born abt 1858 in Missouri.

Mikey Ragonesi Mikey - thanks! Do you have any sources? What's NEW info for me (and where I'd want source info) is 1) aka "Finis", 2) Francis' father Francis (which now means there are three generations of Francis as "Finis" also had a son Francis. I thought Finis might have been orphaned?); and 3) the mother "Gordon".

I did already know the "Germany and Italy" connections generally, due to a later census and about Allie Murrell, who I have some decent data on. But the above is HUGE - again, any additional info is welcomed! Thanks!

Sorry, it has been a while since i found those records and i can't remember where to find them. i will look for that record and new records
