My 4g grandfather. He had no middle name. He was known as Jack. Among his children, were William (my 3g grandfather) and a namesake son, John Joseph "Texas John" Hurst. William was known as "Jack's Bill" to distinguish William from his uncle, Sheriff John's brother. Texas John was known as "Jack's Son", or Jackson, for short.
But people keep copying bad genealogy.
