Created Northeast Coast Campaign (1703) project.

https://www.geni.com/projects/Northeast-Coast-Campaign-1703/48622

For those interested in this topic and helping with creating projects for it, see for a listing of massacres that includes those for both sides of the issue: https://www.geni.com/projects/Indian-Massacres/26608

The description of this project seems to exclude massacres perpetrated by the forces of European origin yet the list includes such events.

How should the title and description be altered to reflect this comingling...

... also, how does one differentiate between a "war" and a "massacre"?

“n the history of the European colonization of North America, an atrocity termed "Indian massacre" is a specific incident wherein a group of people (military, mob or other) deliberately kill a significant number of relatively defenseless or innocent people -- usually civilian noncombatants or to the summary execution of prisoners-of-war. The term pertains to the killings of people of European descent by indigenous people of the North American continent (Indians) or killings of indigenous people by people of European descent and/or other indigenous people.“

Maybe a little formal sounding, i did have to read twice.

I don’t think the title should be changed, it matches Wikipedia, and we need that easy cross reference, at least I do.

So a simpler wording up top, before the instructions ?

Mike, these are “events,” may or may not be part of a (titled) war.

So for instance the project I just made:

https://www.geni.com/projects/Massacre-at-Bath-1711/48619

- event: Massacre
- War: an opening event to what later became called the The Tuscarora War (no Geni project yet)

How’s this for an updated “intro” for the project https://www.geni.com/projects/Indian-Massacres/26608 ? Clearer?

Cultural clashes between European settlers and Natives lasted for over four hundred years, from isolated incidents to large scale, organized wars. If the casualty was a civilian, of any background, our goal is to capture their death in a project related to this list of “Indian Massacres.”

So please add profiles to the massacre projects listed below; those projects are also found in the “related projects” groupings. If there isn't a project already, please create one, and let everyone know in this discussion.

Please add profiles to this “umbrella” project only if nothing else seems to fit, such as travelers, or only a few individuals, etc.

Erica,
I like that covers everyone possible lol. I might have few others coming up in this grouping WV was always at war with someone. Lol

The Redstone or Corbly family massacre should be added. It is known variably as Fort Burd or Redstone, Brownsville, PA.

I am not so good at adding things, but do very well with research and citations. :)

Another point - I often come across mentions of various events when skimming through historic books and papers. I would like to be able to add citations and references to these accounts, but don't really know where they belong. There are many accounts which are either a written communication - person names, dates, number of people lost, or, mention in a compilation of specific events within a a family or region that may stand alone or be pert of a larger event, yet not tied specifically. What is the best way to deal with sharing the citations?

I found Another Massacre Big Bottom massacre another ohio massacre cool.
