Ancestry.com has done it again. Another heavy barrage against Rootsweb.com, more inflicted damage, more links broken forever. They are doing *everything they can* to DESTROY Rootsweb as a usable genealogical resource - AND THEY ARE SUCCEEDING.

What happened? I am able to search in worldconnect.

It may be nothing more than simple negligence (or malign neglect, which Ancestry.com is very strongly suspected of). But when I tried to follow a couple of links to Elinor Browne Warfield's ancestors, they timed out and I had to go to the Internet Archive to retrieve old information (there was nothing newer than 2015, and some no newer than 2007).

Ancestry took the whole Rootsweb site offline just before Christmas 2017, and has been restoring its functionality piecemeal, very slowly, and very, very grudgingly. It's very, very obvious that they want people to *give up on* Rootsweb and use *them* instead (never mind that they're GIGO all the way).

See discussion on Thomas Browne for a look at what got me digging again.
