So, I believe that I am decended from Rev. Robert Owen b 1672 d. 1714 in Prince George's County as many of you also claim.
However, my information is that his parents were Edward Owen and Hannah Baxter. Not a RObert Owen.
I got this information from Betty Cox Owen's book. Not sure how relieable it is.
I have Edwards line traced upwards VERY far. But I just don't know if can rely on this one link.
Many of you believe (and I have seen reference too in old books ) that Rev. Robert Owen's father was also named Robert. Can anyone steer me towards some sources for that?
Here's the story as I have come to understand it:
Attorney Robert Owen (1612-1685) came to Penn to the Welsh tract with his son,Griffith, John and Lewis. Griffith was a Doctor and his line is well researched. They all came on the ship VINE in 1684 And settled near Duck Creek, Penn. They were Quakers
Aparently another of RObert's son's Edward had come previously (perhaps either in Penn's company ONE or SEVEN-there are Edward Owen's on both). Upon the arrival of the rest of his family, Edward sold his land to his brother Griffith and moved to Calvert County Maryland.
It is said that he did not agree with his father's affiliation with the Quakers and sent his son, RObert to England to be ordained in the Anglican church. Here is were his story becomes one and the same with Rev. Robert Owens (1672-1714), rector of Prince George's Parish 1698-1714.
SO...... DOES anyone out there have some records, old genealogies, or references to PROVE that this story is not true and indeed Rev. Robert Owen's father was ROBERT OWEN, not EDWARD OWEN. And if so, does anyone know the line upwards??
Thanks,
Sarita
