For what it’s worth from the Estes melungeon study (I am up to Page 80), Sizemores are confirmed Native American DNA but no specific tribe identified. Historical studies point to Nansemond tribe.

Erica,
Please see documents for Martha and her Husband and Historical markers in media. It states Cherokee.

OK. But from what I understand, Sizemore’s are kind of their own clan.

My favorite story is when they hauled Golden Sizemore into court. Judge said, is it true you have 52 children? Sizemore said, if I were as good looking as you, would have had more.

The wives seen to have been more English / Irish Origins.

Erica,
The one wife I posted is for Martha Arms her father is said to be. He’s not Sizemore but I don’t know much about him other then what is stated as him being full Cherokee. This one you have to research more.

My son just recently found he's descended from Artemis Wires, FPOC. People in her lines on census records use everything from Weir, Whyer, Wise, and others. The family history is she was part Cherokee. We can't trace her line beyond this person who is his 5th great-grandfather. I can find others relatives living nearby on census records but haven't been able to connect the dots to the parents, but these are in SC rather than Virginia or West Virginia. Still, I'm "assuming" they're all related "somewhow". If anyone does happen to know more on this line, it would be a huge breakthrough since this is my son's brick wall. Thanks!

Joseph Wires / Wyers
