I first came across this story a couple of years ago on ancestry.com. At that time I compared the implied death date of Anna Sophia Winters from the story with the death date that is implied in the story.
The way I'm reading it, the details don't match. If Anna Sophia was murdered by a Native American who threw a hatchet at her head, then shouldn't she have died in 1769, that is, when Henry Jacob was 9 years old? Instead the facts seem to be that she died in 1837.
If it's all a true story, then it's worth telling. If it's a fairy tale, meant to glorify some particular person, then shouldn't it be retracted or explained in some fashion?
Camille- 4th great grand daughter of Henry Jacob Winters.
P.S. I have other ancestors with other stories that totally don't add up, like one who supposedly met Jesse James and before that was part of a historical, violent and rebellious act in Northern Ireland, and had changed his last name to escape the English (which doesn't add up with the rercords).
I too am a 4th great granddaughter of Henry Winter/Winters. This story has been very confusing! The same story was told about my 3rd great grandfather David Winter. It said all were killed except for David yet we were given information on David’s siblings as they married and lived. David’s mother was Elizabeth Keller. I have not been able to find much information on Henry. My parents started researching and passed away before finishing this family line. I would love to find out more information if you have any to share.
Thank you
