Sarah West and Jesse Patty were never married. Her three sons, Jesse, Obediah, and Zorobable were born out of wedlock. Jesse Patty was forced by the church wardens to take them as apprentices. He moved from Pittsylvania County, Virginia to Union District, South Carolina and the boys went with him. Sarah West was alive and living next to Joseph Howell in the 1800 census in York County, South Carolina. Joseph Howell was the father of Obediah's future wife, Sarah Howell. Sarah was not mentioned in her father's will so there is no hard evidence to support that Joseph was her father. Sarah West probably went with her sons to Blount, County, Tennessee and died after 1800.
