Radegonde is a german name that derives from a Frankish Queen, St. Radegonde, patron saint of the sick, who was buried in a church. In 1562, Huguenots removed her bones from her coffin and burned them.* At the time, France was split between Roman Catholics and Huguenots. We have to question why a French parent would have named their child Radegonde in the early 17th century. Because of the religious war in France at the time and because St. Radegonde's bones were burned by Huguenots. It is likely that the naming of this child is related to these events.

French Catholics had a list of approved names they HAD to use to name their child. All the names were names of saints.
