Please help. I am looking for proof that my Grandfather, WJ Payne served in World War 2. I know from Oral history that he was in Egypt and later went to italy and was just about to enter Germany after signing the "Blue oath"????? when the war was declared over. I am doing my Masters degree and need this info urgently. Can anybody help please?

Try contacting these organisations, they have the service numbers/records.... http://samilitaryhistory.org/; http://www.rapidttp.co.za/search.milhist; https://www.ditsong.org.za/en/

The best place to contact would be the archives of the South African military forces (SANDF, SADF 1961-1994, UDF 1910-1961). The people there are incredibly helpful, particularly w.r.t. historical research. They have however been physically moved around, and I believe would now be in Centurion, despite the info on this webpage: http://www.archivalplatform.org/registry/entry/documentation_centre...

Safest, most assured, contact would probably be via email.

Can confirm what Johann said above. Received my great grandfather's military service record from Major G. Bentz via email. Well worth contacting them.

My father served in the Technical Service Corps, 7th Motor Transport Reserves in Egypt for 4 years and 91 days . Would they be included in this project?

Ahh, I think you need to be a Collaborator to add. Sent you an invite, but added him myself for you. Check that you're happy with it :-)

That's good - we're short of Nazis :-) I've invited you to the project. Yell if I can help you add.

Contacted the SANDF and they sent me his service record.....Yay! How do I add him to the project?

7/30/2018 at 3:11 AM

He was already added. You need to accept my invitation to collaborate on the project.
Then you can edit and add his name into the text of the project too.

Hello All,
There are some links in this thread that seem to no longer be active. Can you advise which one was used by the successful posters?
I am looking for records for my Father-in-laws, father. However we only have a name, vague details of a wound sustained and a recollection of stories relating to the riding of motorcycles during his service. A picture of him next to a ambulance may be mere incidental posing.
Any help will be appreciated.

Everything on your tree is private and as far as I can see you have only four names on your tree. As your father in law has already departed this life you can put everything you have on him on a profile that is not private.

It will help to trace him
