Janet, may be able to hone in on your answer. Where is your Israel Rittenberg buried? Name of his wife and children? Profession? Approximate years of birth and death. I have access to a variety of Rittenberg records and have found two or three Israel Rittenbergs born about the same time who might have been buried in Ohio. btw, most Rittenbergs emigrating to US were from Russia and especially areas governed by them at various points of the 17th through 19th centuries. That isn't a conclusive answer, just an observation until you have credible evidence.
Raymond David Minkus Thank you so much, I am going around in circles with this, I asked on a Geneology facebook page for help with the birth place on the headstone as the photograph isn't very clear and it was suggested it was Wallachisch, Russia. I cant add the photo here but it is on find a grave.
Janet Redman I had seen the gravesite photo which is in Evansville, Indiana and lists the birth and death as 1818 and 1881. Birth can be construed as being in Wallachia which today is eastern Romania, but in the early 1800s was at one point under the control of Russia. I highly doubt he was born in today's Velasske Mezirici, but I will access the records to verify that. Please contact me directly through geni as I have pulled other info about Israel and his family. Much of it is quite curious, but I believe that he was born in Wallachia migrated to the northern Polish/Russia before coming to North America. In the U.S., he quite possibly resided in Ohio in his earlier years, then Indianapolis and finally Evansville.
