Maj.-Gen. Hon. John Johnstone - Questionable Y-DNA

I have coordinated a private group of Johnston/es since 2005. We now have over 100 connected by our Y-DNA and documentation. In 2017 we were able to identify via Y-DNA and documentation the line of William Johnstoun of Gretna & Newbie and his son John Johnstoun of Newbie. In addition we have identified tentatively the descendants of Herbert Johnston of Poldean. We are attempting to verify this with the known Poldean line of von Johnston in Germany. Using Y-DNA test results we also were able to identify the Marjoribanks line and subsequently the haplogroup of our ancient Clan Johnstoun Chiefs: I-M223. With this being the case, then I question the documentation of the Johnston who claims to be descended from the Stapleton line, an R haplogroup - totally diconnected.
