Charlemagne or Charles the Great

How do I find out if I trace back to Charlemagne or Charles the Great?

I can not afford to be a paid member? I am also having difficulty finding out if a relative had a native american background her name was: Goldie I (Janes) Moore sometimes spelled More.
She was born November 18, 1897 to John William Janes and Mary Frances (Briner) Janes Goldie was born in Holgate, Henry, Ohio, United States. Family stories stated that she was full blood Cherokee however census records have her marked as W.
Also in 1930 her she already had 7 children from a marriage with Carl F Moore. in 19306 of them were in Allen County Children's Home on Shawnee Rd Lima OH and the oldest Dorothy was living with Goldie, John and his wife. Why what happened to the family I would love to know? I can not find any pictures of the children in the home or documents from the home. Or newspapers to see what happened???
