I having issues here one I can’t seem to get old England city names to go into profiles. I found one story and a Family Search Record with no actual record where Jeffery Nixon was at. I at Brick wall here. How do I find England records to prove or find parents for this person? I haven’t seen much on parents someone has ? Joseph Nixon but I questioning this as no records.

Someone on rootsweb put this how they got Joseph Nixon but I can’t prove non of this. If anyone could provide assistance be greatly appreciated.

(Searching for parentage of Jeffrey Nixon, born ca. 1688/89 likely near Carlisle, Cumberland, m. 1728 (2) Ann Barnfather, died 1780, Powcady, Walton, Cumberland.
Jeffrey may have had brother Timothy, who was christened in 1691 in Carlisle; this Timothy's father was Joseph Nixon.
Also searching for parentage of Jane Routledge who married in 1713, George Potts, Haltwhistle, Northumberland.)

Jeoffrey Nixon

If you are having problems with getting historical location names into profiles (e.g. because the location-lookup only shows modern locations), simply expand the location detail fields and type the historical name(s) into the proper fields. Those should 'stick' -- until someone uses the auto-lookup again. The solution to THAT problem is to ask to have the profile set with the MP (Master Profile) flag *and* to lock the particular location field (with the, preferably documented & cited, correct values).

One of the "Geni conventions" is, in most cases, to use the historically correct location names for birth, death, & marriage, etc. ... with the exception of burial location. It is nice to use the "modern name" for the burial location so that someone who may be interested can more easily find it.

I will try this thanks for help on that. Does anyone do English records look up here. I not sure how to Determine Jeffery Nixon parents I know how to do US stuff but I only find occasionally old country things. And records impossible I learning but it takes time. Any suggestions I know England Nixon family could go back 1300’s but I trying to get passed this brick wall.

My heritage had some records I confirmed to profiles

Jeoffrey Nixon
Marriage: Nov 29 1728 - Lanercost, Cumberland, England
Wife: Ann Barnfather

A tree had his father as Joseph Nixon

Cool I can’t get into records on My Heritage thank you so much.

I found some research notes in Ancestry this what it has to say maybe it help in putting more to him.

From scrutiny of the Lanercost(Walton) Parish Records 1666-1731, there are five entries for a 'Jeoffrey' or 'Jeffrey' Nixon. The first relates to:

Elizabeth d. of Jeffrey Nixon of Low Wall - christened 23rd March 1701.

The next is the burial of:

Mary w. of Jeffrey Nixon of Low Wall - 10th April 1701.

Mary would seem to have died from the after effects of childbirth. There are no further records for 'Jeffrey' or his daughter Elizabeth.

The next entry is for:

Jeoffrey Nixon of Pokeadam and his marriage to Anne Barnfarther of Banks - 29th November 1728. This would appear to have been a hastily arranged marriage, as we then find an entry which reads:

Mary d. of Jeofrey Nixon of Pokeadam - christened 4th December 1728. Sadly, this is followed closely by the record of her burial:

Mary d. of Jeofrey Nixon of Pokeadam - 6th December 1728.

Fortunately, Jeoffrey and Ann(e) go on to have several more children.

The question to be asked is: are the Jeffrey Nixon of Low Wall and Jeoffrey Nixon of Pokeadam one and the same? Later Census records show the Nixon families still living at the same two places until the end of the 19th century. Withourt doubt, the two families are related. Also, the two places (properties) are located within sevearal hundred yards of each other. However, if they are one and the same person, Jeoffrey d. Powcady (the spelling seems to have changed in the late 18thC) 1780, would have been a hundred years old or more when he died, for this to be the case - this seems highly unlikely, though not impossible. Unfortunately, the records for Walton 1731- onwards are incomplete. None of the birth reords for Jeoffery and Anne's several children are available on-line, nor the death records for either of the two Jeffrey / Jeoffrey's. Another problem is that names appearing in the records are often misspelt.

One helpful details which has emerged from the reords is that we are now able to identify our Nixon ancestors even further back than previosly. The enrty for Christenings 1668 reads:

Xtopher s. of John Nixon of Powcadie - 15th Oct.

As the second son of Jeoffrey and Anne was chrsitened Christopher, it is a strong possibilty that the Christopher above is either his father, or more likely his grandfather.

* If anyone would like a copy of the Lanercost Records for 1666-1731 please let me know.

(for those who may not recognize the short-hand: "Xtopher" = "Christopher")

Thanks Dan I was wondering about that. Not sure it will help any what I found but any leads I guess helps.

The date is pushing it on the records front but I've had luck reaching out to the relevant churches and/or local history group as they often have records (like a spreadsheet of grave transcripts) not easily accessed otherwise.

One of my wife's sides main branches has a tree back to the mid 1600s on FamilySearch but with no records attached but a distant cousin descended from the same ancestors ended up in Salt Lake City so I assume they've got access to records that aren't see easy to find but we've never spoken to them so it remains a mystery.

Bill,
Thanks I will check around see if I can get some records maybe.
