Let's use this discussion to work together to add all approximately 70,000 Mormon Pioneers to geni.
I've created publicly available Google spreadsheets with the names of all currently known Mormon Pioneers. These lists have over 59,000 names on them.
Here's how you can help:
Any geni user can edit particular columns of these spreadsheets to add a link next to the name of any pioneer on the list who have profiles that are verified as being found on geni.
Here is a link to the Summary Totals sheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SmOKQw2-O6hhF3biTIXUGbw35Cs...
On the summary totals document just click on any of the years in column "A." This will give you a pop-up link to click on. Doing so will take you to the spreadsheet containing the names of the pioneers that arrived in Utah in that particular year.
Each year is further subdivided into lists of pioneers that traveled together as a group. Each group has its own sheet on an individual tab on the spreadsheet. These tabs are found on the bottom edge of each spreadsheet. For example for the year 1847 there are 15 tabs called Sheet1 through Sheet15 with each tab representing a group or company of pioneers.
On each spreadsheet you'll see lists of names of the pioneers formatted as an easy google search term to help you find them on geni. These google search terms are in column "G" of the spreadsheet. Additionally the list contains each pioneer's birth and death dates as well as some links to other sites that will help in your searching. All you need to do is use the google search term in column "G" by copying and pasting that search term into a google search window and then look at the results. Usually the top most result will be the exact link to geni to get to that pioneer's profile.
On google if you find a promising search result click on it to open it in geni. Next compare the birth and death dates of the pioneer on the spreadsheet with the dates on the geni profile. Also look at the death location and see if they died in the western United States like in Utah or Idaho. If your confident that you have found them on geni next copy and paste the link of the geni profile back into column "H" of the spreadsheet. The column will automatically turn green if you place a link to a geni profile in it. However if you determine that a particular pioneer is not yet on geni type an "x" in column "H" and it will automatically turn a red color indicating that a pioneer couldn't be found.
When the spreadsheet is completely filled in we'll know which Mormon pioneers have profiles on geni. Then we can go back and add profiles for any that are missing.
Don't forget to make sure that the profile is added to the correct geni project. Just send a request to join any of the Mormon pioneer projects so that you can add profiles to the project. You can use this discussion topic to request to join any of the 25 Mormon pioneer projects.
I've found that the best way to work is to pick a year and a particular sheet and methodically go down the list and search for each pioneer on google in order instead of skipping around. Working this way I've already completed searching for all of the pioneers that arrived in 1847 and 1848 and I'm currently working on the year 1849. Some sheets have just a few names on them while other sheets have over 1,000 names on them.
Thanks in advance for your help and feel free to ask any questions in this discussion. You can also use this discussion to report which year and sheet your working on or have just finished.

ps. The google spreadsheets have revision control built in so if you make a mistake and don't know how to fix it let me know so that I can revert your mistakes back to an earlier version of the spreadsheet where things were still correct.
I just finished the 1849 sheet1 which is the Silas Richards company of 251 pioneers. Geni is missing 119 of the pioneers of this particular group.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lh9XLVUqAdLiW2txnsLicZgWXfj...
I'm moving onto sheet #2 which has 180 profiles that need to be searched for to see if they are already on geni.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lh9XLVUqAdLiW2txnsLicZgWXfj...
I added a column to record if geni has a dna haplogroup designation propagated to the pioneer's profile. If you run across a pioneer profile who's descendant has tested put a link of the haplogroup project in column "I" on the spreadsheet. So far I've found only 83 profiles out of 5,000 profiles. This means that only .016% of pioneers searched have a haplogroup designation. Hopefully more descendants will discover geni and upload dna tests in the future.
I'm sure studies like this could be used by population scientists in the future studying endogamy which is the custom of marrying only within the limits of a local community. So far the number of pioneers with dna on geni is too small to draw any useful conclusions.
Sheets 3, 4 and 5 of 1849 are now surveyed. For those 3 lists there are a total of 602 pioneers and we now can see that 272 of them are missing from geni. I'm moving onto sheet 6 which was the group of pioneers led by Allen Taylor comprising 371 people.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lh9XLVUqAdLiW2txnsLicZgWXfj...
The count of missing pioneers on geni is now 6,030.
Help is needed to add these 6,030 profiles to geni and there are over 48,000 that need to be looked up to see if they have profiles already.
If you have any questions on how you can help let me know.
The number of missing pioneers keeps increasing. I just finished sheet#6 of 1849 and now I know that there are more than 6,147 pioneers missing from geni.
I've also started keeping track on the spreadsheets which profiles have photographs or not for the person. Ones that are missing photos will need us to see if one can be located and attached to the profile. For example of the 393 pioneers traveling in the 1849 Allen Taylor company 90 of them have photographs on geni.
I'm now moving onto 1849 arrivials listed on sheet 7 of the spreadsheet. The Mormon pioneers traveled genearlly in companies but some people can independantly. This list of 138 are those who are known to have arrived in 1849 but it is unknown which company they traveled in.
Your help is welcome. If you have any questions let me know.

1849 is done! Of the 1627 Mormon pioneer arrivals in 1849 there are 893 on geni and 734 that are missing from geni that should be added for just that year.
The total of all pioneers missing from geni for all years of arrivals is now 6,248 people.
These totals are always autoupdated and found at the bottom of the page of this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SmOKQw2-O6hhF3biTIXUGbw35Cs...
I'm trying not to be discouraged that there are still 47,854 that need to be looked up. If you would like to help I would welcome that help. I'll be moving onto the 1850 arrivals which much larger than the 1849 arrivals were.
The first 2 companies of names from sheet #1 and #2 from 1850 are now done. 276 pioneers traveled and 168 of those profiles were on geni and geni is missing 108 of them. I'm moving onto sheet#3 in 1850 which was led by Warren Foote and it has 474 people in it.
Help is welcome and helpers could start on sheet#5
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hD91JyEg3WITO5APn6GYhuQYlSD...
Sheets 3 and 4 for 1850 are also now done. Totals now stand at 6,008 profiles found on geni and 6,470 profiles are missing.
If you'd like to help use any of the spreadsheets and look for the column that has the status. Any that are highlighted in red are missing from geni and can be added. After you add them make sure that you paste the link into the spreadsheet where it will turn green. this way you can help create some of the 6,470 profiles that are known to be missing from geni.
I've looked up the 218 names for sheet#5 of 1850 arrivals. 100 of them are on geni and 118 are missing. Totals now stand at 6,157 found and 6,489 missing. There are still 46,775 that need to be verified.
You can make a contribution be being a volunteer on this project. If you would like to help please contact me.
I'm starting on sheet #6 of 1850 today.
1850 is done! I ended up being able to locate 1,946 pioneers on geni while there were 1,500 of the 1850 arrivals that do not have profiles on geni.
Your help locating any of the remaining 1851 pioneers of which there are 1,776 would be greatly appreciated. Here is a link to the 1851 spreadsheet that will have the list of names that need to be looked up.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/191dvZOOKh6XDLfEKZwTm11WgNsO...
The first 4 pioneer companies of 1851 are now completed. Of those 273 pioneers only 92 ended up being on Geni while 181 are missing. I'm currently surveying the 1851 James Cummings Pioneer company comprising of 292 people to see how many of them have profiles on geni.
FYI I added a "plural marriage" column to record males that were married polygamously. I'm not doing an exhaustive research pass on this because it would take a lot of time but when I come across a profile that was either known to be a polygamist, either based on the historical record or the dates of marriages and births of children, I'm recording that info.
According to the essay "Plural Marriage and Families in Early Utah" found on lds.org "Probably half of those living in Utah Territory in 1857 experienced life in a polygamous family as a husband, wife, or child at some time during their lives. By 1870, 25 to 30 percent of the population lived in polygamous households, and it appears that the percentage continued to decrease over the next 20 years."
Since my enumeration is incomplete and not exhaustive there are numerous polygamous males that I have not indicated as such on the spreadsheets. As time goes on the list will gradually become more accurate.
7 additional pioneer companies are now complete. I just finished the 1851 John Smith company (sheet #11) and am moving on to sheet#12 of the spreadsheets. The next few companies are pretty small ones. The current grand total is 7,870 profiles found on geni and 7,882 profiles missing. There are 43,771 still left to research. I could use some help. Please message me either here or directly if you are willing to help and I'll get you started.
Sheet #15 is now done for the 1851 year of arrivals. I'm moving onto sheet#16.
