Does anyone know why Family Search have started locking down online access to records from the Philippines? First it was the civil records that were made inaccessible then it was the regular baptismal, marriage and burial records of the church. Now I have noticed that the "partidas de bautismos/casamientos" are also no longer accessible online unless one is a member of the LDS.

I do understand that there can be "use agreements" in place between the record owners/keepers and the LDS church. But now that the church are moving towards online access to digitised records, how will anyone be able to continue doing research? I see that with many Spanish records they may be accessed in two different ways: either you are a member of the LDS or you can go to a Family History Centre and get access through their system. But it does not indicate that the second option can be used to access the records from the Philippines.

Does anyone have any information regarding what we should do in the future in order to continue our research? I am getting extremely concerned. Thank you all.

You're right. Contract restrictions result in inaccessibility to non-LDS members like us. We have to understand the situation until such restrictions are lifted. It might be temporary, but I cannot say until when.
