As a direct descendant of John Mychell the Elder of Rawkerhayne through his son Robert who married Ales Culley of Ottery st Mary against his father's wishes and was cut off with 2 shillings in his will dated 1587, I am increasingly exasperated by him being confused with his brother John Mychell the younger who married Agnes Vye. (They had the titles Elder and Younger as they were brothers, father's' tended to give the same names to their sons as infant mortality was high and they wanted their Christian name to go forward). To settle the matter for once and all, John Mychell the Elders' wife was Marrian. She appears in the Colyton Burial Register for 7/11/1585. It's at the top of the relevant page entitled "Of Buryalls" and it reads: - Marrian Mychell the wyfe of Johan Mychell the Elder of Rawkerhane was buried the sevynth daye of November. I would post an image of it up here if there was a facility to do so but there isn't. Here is the address of the relevant email address but may have to subscribe. So no more Agnes's or dubious links to Cornish Mitchells, please.
