Hi, I am currently working on my family tree. My grandmother's maiden name was Wheeler. The Wheeler family came into the US through Mass. and migrated to Texas. Do you have any information that could shed some light on this part of my family. Thank you

Sincerely,
Candice

Hi Candice

The Wheeler families are quite large. Can you post a link to the Geni profile of the earliest known ancestor you have - or start a discussion from his profile so we can see it?

There's an enormous 2 volume book in the public domain by Albert Gallatin Wheeler on the Wheeler families (some of whom are quite confusing). Once we get a little closer to which one you're tracing we can try lookups.

FYI there's a large South American branch from Massachusetts !

Thank you so much for getting back to me. Richard Welere I think I did this right. His name is Richard Welere and was born in 1399 and died in 1439, now I am not sure if I am on the right track. I am currently getting documents from my heritage website.

I do know that my grandma's maiden name was Wheeler. Her dad was in the military and is buried at the Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio Texas. I do not know if this information helps.

So actually your note about your grandma was what I needed, it told me where in your tree to look, in order to connect your line with the existing in Geni Wheelers. And I found the match here

https://www.geni.com/merge/compare/6000000068225226953?to=600000002...

As soon as I hit the "merge" button your tree will be joined to the Geni World tree.

And then we need to validate it back at your great grandfather forward with records and answering your query

Thomas Benton Wheeler

Do we have a date / place where he was born ?

There are issues around this profile

Henry Wheeler, of Jamestown

And this child Maj. John Wheeler

It looks like your line was Catholic emigrating to Maryland (then VA > TX).

No Massachusetts and if Maj John's profile is correct, English ancestry not tied in yet to the Shropshire England origins.

Candice Morris I had done some cleanup. My thought so far is your Wheeler line is from an emigrant to Maryland, his ancestry unknown

I do not currently know a correct date or place of birth for Thomas Benton Wheeler. I had found conflicting dates and names to some of my Wheeler ancestors. I know for sure that my grandma grew up Catholic. I will take a closer look at the tree and clean up the false or incorrect information. Thank you for your help.

I question John Gill Wheeler simply because of the dates and the name. I know that my grandma's father's name was John Gill Wheeler but there is a Sr. I am not sure if that has anything to do with the military or if he had a son name John Gill Jr. This is what has me confused. On myheritage tree I will be looking at documentation to try to clear this up. When I started the tree I did not realize my grandma's father was huge! :)

I thought so. I did find out from my dad that John Gill Wheeler was in WW2 pacific and may have lived in Oklahoma. I am still digging through. It is a see of endless information. LOL
