Information from several sources are in contradiction.

In the biography for Branson M. Ross, it lists James as being from Tennessee or Ohio and list his death at 55 years old.

in the biography for Jacob Rego, the Husband of Emma I Rego - Grand daughter of James, it list James and being from England.

in census records for Branson M. Ross, he lists James as being born in Tenessee
In census records for Rebecca J. Stout, she lists James as being born in Ohio, but in one census she says Scotland
in census records for Sarah E. Miller, she lists James as being born in Ohio

The 1830 census record for a James Ross living in Fayette county, Ohio lists his birth year between 1800 and 1810
The 1840 census record for a James Ross living in Van Buren County, Iowa lists his birth between 1800 and 1810

The 1830 census for James Ross shows one male between 0 - 5 years old
The 1840 census for James Ross shows two males born between 1826 - 1830, one male born between 1830 and 1835

This means that James Ross may have been a widow with two sons at the time he married Elizabeth Parrott.

James Ross is a common name, and there are to many to be certain we have the correct James Ross in these early census records.

From the above information, I can only assume that the children didn't know for sure where James Ross was born, and also may have been mistaken about his age.

Comments welcome, and any help in determining the parents of James Ross is much appreciated.
