I re-call my Grampy Bert cycled to work each day from his home on Church Road, Bow Brickhill. He operated the signal box at the bottom of the village, shutting the crossing gates and oprating the signals with the big levers in the signal box. I re-call going in there to see him and trying to operate the big heavy levers. An oilly rag was always present and steam egines passing.
I do know he was in one of the episodes of "The Saint" staring Roger Moore on TV, as he had to open the gates on the level crossing to let Simon Templar - The Saint drive through.
Grampy Bert also I recall liked westerns on TV and when ever a Indian got killed in the films or TV shows he always said, "That's another one handed their knife and fork in". Not sure where he got that sayjng from.
