Hi,

I am researching this line for a friend - would there be a possible link to Isaac Payten CONVICT (BIRTH 11 NOV 1759 • Bishopsgate, London, England - DEATH 31 JAN 1829 • Sydney, New South Wales)

Isaac 'wife' Susannah Harrison (CONVICT) BIRTH 24 MAY 1782 • St Dunstans, Stepney, England - DEATH AFTER 1823 • England

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ruth

Hi Ruth,
I am sorry I cannot help you.
Charlotte Payten is my great grandmother. I know nothing of her family except she married William Charles Bennett and had many children.

If you find out a connection, please let me know as I always want to expand my family tree.

Has anyone in the family done a DNA test, especially the oldest living connection?
Good luck

Regards

Hi Alan, yes I have Peter Walsh tested on Ancestry, born in 1947. His paternal side is Irish and we do not know much hence the digging as he had a 3rd cousin match on Ancestry with this family listed and haven't received a message back yet.
I thought of working the tree back down to see whether they link back to his Irish Walsh family, but Irish records are a bit tricky!
Are you on Ancestry>should I upload his DNA to geni? I am waiting for it to complete uploading to FTDNA, but there seems to be some upgrade happening which is delaying that - they said hopefully by the end of this week they will be complete.
I will then upload it through their partner program so it is linked.
Thanks,
Ruth

Hi Ruth,
Upload his raw data to
www.gedmatch.com
Gedmatch is a free site where people upload their DNA that has been tested at all sites.
Ancestry, FTDNA, My Heritage, etc.
So you can compare with a lot more people.

Hi, thank you I had done that already & found a 4th cousin on his maternal side - Andrews & she has done a lot on the family, even written a book! Amazing!! FtDNA has a Walsh connection about 4th/5th cousin so I have messaged them & waiting & have linked up the DNA to here now as well! Next is Myheritage!
Wish me luck & have a great weekend!
Thanks,
Ruth

Hello Ruth...Charlotte Madeline PAYTEN is my great grandmother on my mothers side.
Charlotte was born 1837 Parramatta in Sydney. Her father was John Willian Paton or Payten
Holetier....her mother is unknown or just not listed, which is unusual. Charlotte married William BENNETT 4/3/1867 Moss Vale NSW...they had about 13 children, one of which is my grandmother WILLENA b. 1886. Charlotte died 12/2/1927 aged approx. 85. William died 1897 Both in NSW.
Haven't been able to locate any other info on Charllottes early life in Sydney but have also wondered is she is part of the ISAAC PAYTEN family who were famous in Sydney and built many original buildings to house the Convicts. Isaac was a Stonemason.

Have you done your DNA yet ??? It's very worthwhile...I am also in touch with ALAN BENNETT who is my 2nd cousin.....regards Rose in Australia

Hi,

Thank you for replying, sorry for the delay I have been busy with work & school holidays! My friend, Peter Walsh has done his DNA on Ancestry & I have uploaded ti to GEDmatch, FtDNA, MyHeritage etc. On Ancestry there is a 3rd cousin who has not replied to any messages, but has the surnames Bennett, Walsh & Payten - Charlotte Madeline Payten (? - 1927) is listed, I thought I would do some digging and found there were a number of trees online with Walsh & Payton/Payten and was wondering if there was a link back to Peter Walsh's line, but not enough research has been done on the Walsh family as they are Irish and records are a bit sparse. I think there may be a connection, but I will have to go do some digging into the Walsh family tree as so far we only have great grandparents in the tree.
Thanks for your reply again!

Hopefully the 3rd cousin comes back - not sure how else to figure out the match - R.M. (managed by melmac2575) is all I see on Ancestry and a tree with Charlotte Madeline Payten (? - 1927) that stands out as the other online trees show Paytens marrying Walsh --- I may be on the wrong track though?

Hi Ruth...

As Alan replied Melmac and Alan and me are all 2nd cousins...I don't know anything about WALSH
surname connected wth the PAYTENS...bu then I don't know anything about CHARLOTTE except her father is listed as JOHN WILLIAM PAYTEN....hotel keeper and most unusual her mothers name is not recorded. I can't find John WILLIAM...Charlotte was born 1837 I in Parramatta Sydney. I will research more as a friend of mine is an expert on Parramatta NSW. Rose

Hi,

Thank you perhaps the link is just through the Bennet or Payten line - I will try research his Walsh line further back in the Irish records and see what I find. Let me know if you would like to be invited to the research tree I have going at the moment - if you want to send an email I will invite you to the tree on Ancestry - thanks again!

Hi,

Here is Peter Walsh's gedmatch kit number if that helps - the email goes back to me, but I am in contact with him via email if you have any questions -
A779491 P Walsh (PW)
Thanks,
Ruth

Hi,
Thanks Alan, that may help narrow down the link to Mel ;-)
She has been in touch and shared her tree so I will have a go at that.

Thanks,
Ruth

The connection may be too far back to show up
