The 1901 Census gives the birthdate of Rachel Hamburg as Feb.15, 1887, age 13 - The 1911 Census says Feb.15, 1889, age 21.
Which has more credence? When she married Isaac Ross in March 1915, he was 22 years old. Was she 28 years old or 26? Note:
If the 1901 Census is true, then Rachel was 35 when her last child was born in January 1923. And she passed away at the age of 75, not 73. In fact, she would've been in her 76th year. What's your opinion?
Not sure how much it matters.
On their marriage document on the Nova Scotia Historical Vital Stats site she gives her age as 22. https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com/ItemView.aspx?ImageFile=22-369&... which is drastically different from the other two documents.
A possible match for her immigration supports the c.1887 date.
If you check the 1901 Census again, it's not just Rachel. We see her father's birthday is given as August 26,1863 not November 1862 as was thought(see Geni), Esther...September 17,1861 not July 25, 1862 as thought, Sophia..December 14, 1883 not September 4th,1884 , Israel ...September 4th, 1889 not September 29, 1891, Barney Feb.29,1891 not c.1893 as was believed. This late date is the giveaway though. That's because 1891 was not a leap year! So all the dates in the 1901 census are now under a bit of a cloud. And the mystery deepens. What was the reason for the inaccurate date(s)? Maybe as immigrants they simply couldn't communicate well? Maybe everyone (except the father) wanted to seem older for some reason? In any case, for now it's probably better to keep the Geni dates (including for Rachel) as is.
