Her name is currently listed on the Profile as:
First Name: Bubeh -- Middle Name: Leah -- Last Name: Lobel -- Birth Surname: Bercovici
"Bubbe", pronounced "Bubbeh" or "Bubbee" is the Yiddish word for Grandmother.
She is listed on her son Leo's WWI Draft Reg. as "Mrs. Leah Lobel", on the 1915 NY Census as Leah, on the 1920 Census as Lea, on the 1930 Census (surname first) as Lobel Leah.
I am wondering if "Bubeh" is a spelling variation of "Bubbe", and reflects the fact that the family members who entered her profile had always heard her referred to as "Bubbe Leah" -- ie, Grandma Leah.
And if so, if perhaps "Bubeh" or "Bubbe" should be put in the Title Field which Geni now offers, and "Leah" should be in the First Name Field, not the Middle Name Field.
Since my comment above, Private User has uploaded, as a Photo, a copy of the "Lobel Family Circle" / "Organized -- May 4th, 1937" / "Get Together Party"
So far, am not seeing a date for the party, but assume the Announcement was written between May 4th, 1937 when the Family Circle was organized, and Feb. 27, 1943 when Bubeh Leah Lobel (Bercovici) died (since she is listed on it as "Honorary President", so apparently still alive at the time it was written) - and is a wonderful document!!
It lists David Joseph Lobel and Bubeh Leah Lobel (Bercovici) (both of whom are among those tagged to it)
as "DAVID JOSEPH AND BUBEH LEAH LOBEL"
and lists each of their children - with spouse, plus if any, their children, plus if any, their grandchildren -- it is truly a wonderful document!
This now moves my original question back in time a ways.
Does anyone know - was "Bubeh Leah" truly her name, or was it written this way because that was what the family all called her back then, and this was how someone visualized it being written?
[I also note, looking at info in the Revision Tab -- "Bubeh Leah" had, on at least one version, been all in the First Name Field. But after a merge, a Curator decided to separate the two words into First Name and Middle Name (per start of my first comment)]
Lois - regarding the date of the party: Hy & Molly are guests of honor, and their marriage is 4/11/37. the document also lists great granchildren, and hy & molly's daughter Judith (my mom) was born on 10/11/39. she is not listed on the document, so the party took place sometime between 5/4/37 and 10/11/39. i tend to lean towards sometime in 1937 since hy & molly's union is being acknolwedged/celebrated
