f you have DNA proved ancestors on other services, here is how to enhance what is on Geni.
On Ancestry.com at least, quality matches that have a "Shared Ancestor" in the cousin's tree can be enhanced over to Geni.
On Ancestry these display like a door frame with yourself on the lower left edge of the frame, a stack of increasingly older ancestors going up, a shared ancestor as the top edge of the door and a series of descendants leading down the right to your matching cousin.
Lately I have taken to clicking out from my own profile on Geni to prove my path to the common ancestor, then attempting to navigate Geni descendants down the cousin's tree.
Adding missing people can be done by hand.....but if you have opted for the Geni Pro subscription and have installed the SmartCopy plugin to the Chrome browser, you can use that to easily copy missing children and spouses. From the match descendant on Ancestry you can "show full tree" and SmartCopy from there, even though you do not "own" their tree!
For my highest quality matches, the process was "clean". As I proceeded to the "good" or "moderate" ones the fun began. Sometimes I found a descendant a few steps more recent is already in Geni, and the path to the common ancestor is different from Ancestry but well done. Other times, the Ancestry path brings out problems in the Geni path, in which case I have messaged the managers about the problem and included the link to the Ancestry tree.
In any case, do proceed down to the present if you can, skipping living/private entries that do not copy anyway. Also be alert for duplicates since someone may already have the more recent people in Geni already.
Enjoy!
Thank you for these details. I have found that using Geni's add on SmartCopy utility from well sourced trees on other sites into Geni pays off, but hadn't figured out how to use DNA test matches to navigate trees across on different platforms.
BTW, the Chrome add on is now available to all geni members, and includes a geni profile consistency checker. See the project https://www.geni.com/projects/SmartCopy/18783 for more details.
