he story that he has is as follows: Leon Kuhn's wife Rozalia Wilhelm related this story of them living in Antwerp, Belgium at the time World War II broke out. It seems they were married in 1935. Leon was initially a tailor graduating to working as a furrier. They hid in the attic area of a house in Antwerp across from the SS headquarters. Apparently one day they were as my bubby put it, ratted out. The SS raided the place took my great grandparents and Leon. The plan was for my bubby with my mother in her arms to run to the back door and escape. There was a SS General there who said "get out, leave dont look back. RUN".
My bubby was able to find someone by the name of SISI or Cesi who helped her find hiding places from one house to another, finally reaching Brussels where they hid out until the war was over. They then went to England and shipped out to Montreal Canada..
I was able to get archives from the Belgian archive department but there are still classified documentations under Leon's name that I can't have. They will maybe only release them in 20 years time. Question is why are they still classified? Leon's family started off in Krakow Poland. I am searching for his Polish Passport. I have searched high and low for copies of it. Nothing is to be found. I am lucky to get what I got.
