Our Captain John died in 1806 and did not apply for a pension from his service in the Revolutionary war. He was not a Captain in the Revolutionary war and I surmise he was a Captain in the local militia.. Our john served under Capt Quarles in the Second Virginia State Regiment. He and his brothers David, James, and Charles bought land together in Burke County North Carolina where . John Baker married Ursula White. Her family was also residing in Burke County North Carolina. They moved to Jefferson County Tennessee where our John died.
From my studies I gathered that the John Baker that married Nancy Ann Norfleet served in another regiment- possibly the 3th North Carolina Regiment. He and Nancy had several children and one of his daughters, Lucinda, married Gov William Blount of Tennessee. This John was born in Bertie County North Carolina and lived and died in Montgomery County Tennessee.
I welcome any other discussion on this topic. LO

Thanks, Lynda. I've been working on Captain John who married Ann Norfleet and went to Montgomery County, Tennessee. He started out in the 7th Regt. and transferred to the 3rd. He definitely had children John (unmarried), Ann (unmarried), and Lucinda who married Gov. Willie Blount. He probably also had William (unmarried, died in the War of 1812), James, and Robert, but I am still looking for his will.

He's also sometimes confused with another Captain or Colonel John Baker, also from North Carolina, who went to Cushtin, Kentucky. (Naturally, all three Johns had sons named John...)

I appreciate the help keeping track of the John Bakers.

Here is Capt. John of the "Bucklands" Baker line who went to Montgomery County, Tennessee:

Capt. John Baker

This appears to be Col. John who went to Kentucky, based on the children--lots of conflicting info on the internet about this family; most trees connect him to Capt John and Ann Norfleet Baker, but their son John died unmarried:

Col. John Jackson Baker
