I'm not an expert but will relate what I have encountered. At one time a 5th great grandfather became an uncle. Now I knew possitively that this person was a grandfather. Depending on who else had been climbing in my tree, I found that I was also related to that person by other family members which then changed my relationship. This happens often in my father's tree as both of his parents trees intertwine often. This may be your situation.
