I have been with Geni.com for awhile. I have recently created projects about communities. There have been questions as to their importance. I have tries to link these projects to the USA PORTAL. There is only one option and that is to removed all community projects, but then someone else will have the same idea. I ask the Geni.com Community to let me know what to do. I was only creating projects to track family migration patterns, and have been told this is "silly." I have been also questioned about other projects like Battles and Descendant projects. I leave it up to the community. Chris L.Mathews

Hi Chris, are you able to add links to the projects you are referring to as you are a collaborator on 1425 projects.
Thanks Leanne

Dear Ms.Minny, The projects are already connected to the USA Portal Projects for Each State. I have already spoken to Ms. Odell and Ms.Howton. I am only trying to help and have tried to work with the Geni.Com community . I saw a need for counties and communities and tried to create projects. Also, I saw a need to create projects for battles that did not have a project. I only hope to make Geni.com better. Thank you for your time.Chris L.Mathews

Hi Chris, you have asked here "I ask the Geni.com Community to let me know what to do" but you haven't provided us with any information to give any assistance or opinion.

With 1425 projects it is difficult, nearly impossible for anyone to tell which projects who are referring to.

My questions on projects that I personally create are
- Does the project overview give enough information that others can understand the scope of the project so that they can 1) decide if they want to assist 2) decide if they want to add profiles to the project?
- Does the name give enough information without being too large?
- Does another project already cover this area? For example if I was to create a "Convicts in Australia" project - how would this be different from the existing "Irish and British Convicts" project. Would it be better to look at adjusting the name / scope of an existing project (via discussion of course)
- Can I give another project justice - ie do I have the time to truly investigate and add the profiles to it?
- Does it provide others with information that they don't already have?
- Do I want others to assist on this project or do I want a project just for me? If it is just for me then I make sure that the overview and name make it clear. If I want others to join and help me - I invite them too.
- How are other users going to find my project? Which portals should it be added to?
- Should this be a tiered project. For example "Jews in Australia" is a portal and then underneath it is "Jews in NSW", "Jews in Queensland". The "Jews in Australia" project has been added to the "Australia" portal and the others have been added to "Jews in Australia" and each other but not the "Australia" Portal.

Are you able to list any of the projects that you have been queried on?

Hi Chris,

I tried to find a project that you might be referring to - https://www.geni.com/projects/Colorado-with-Counties-and-Communitie...?

Isn't Colorado already covered in the existing https://www.geni.com/projects/State-of-Colorado/17659 Project Portal?

By creating a listing "Counties and Communities" under the existing Portal Project you could list all the Counties within Colorado and then attach the counties and Community projects directly there rather than creating a duplicate project for Colorado.
The benefit of that is that someone interested in other aspects of Colorado would see your projects too and maybe join and give a hand.

Dear Ms.Minny, I think there is a link from the state project to the community project; however, I am willing to combine both projects. Please let me know what I can do? Chris L.Mathews

Hi Chris, There isn't really enough information here for me to have an opinion on what you should do with your projects.

Looking at https://www.geni.com/projects/United-States-with-Counties-Areas-Com.... The overview states "This group of projects is for people who wish to trace migration patterns of their families or for any other reason"

Can you explain to me how putting a profile into this project will assist in tracing migration patterns?

I have for a while considered how to do something similar for another location but could not see how to do it effectively. My thoughts are that in order to trace migration I would need
- where they migrated from
- when they migrated to the location
- where they migrated to
- when they migrated from the location
and the number of projects required would be huge

For example to trace the migration pattern of "Jews of Shanghai" (who had a relatively small number of people compared to Colorado) I think I would need at a minimum the following projects.
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Iraq 1701-1800
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from India 1701-1800
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Singapore 1701-1800
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Iraq 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from India 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Singapore 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Iraq 1900-1930
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from India 1900-1930
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Singapore 1900-1930
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Iraq 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from India 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Singapore 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Russia 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Arrived in Shanghai from Hungary 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Iraq 1701-1800
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for India 1701-1800
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Singapore 1701-1800
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Iraq 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for India 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Singapore 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Australia 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for England 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for America 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Israel 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Iraq 1900-1930
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for India 1900-1930

- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for England 1900-1930
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for America 1900-1930
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Israel 1900-1930
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Iraq 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for India 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Singapore 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Russia 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Hungary 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Australia 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for England 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for America 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Left Shanghai for Israel 1930-1950
- Jews of Shanghai - Born, Raised and Died in Shanghai 1701-1800
- Jews of Shanghai - Born, Raised and Died in Shanghai 1801-1900
- Jews of Shanghai - Born, Raised and Died in Shanghai 1901-1930
- Jews of Shanghai - Born, Raised and Died in Shanghai 1930-1950

Sorry forgot to mention that the number of Jews in Shanghai would be approximately 40000 people (due to the influx in WW2) rather than the 5 million+ for Colorado (2014 population)
