On Dutch records this name appears as Catharina, and on English records name is Caroline. My great aunt Carry (sister of my grandmother), whom I remember had official civil name Caroline.
I can understand not wanting Catherine as civil name in England as this is not considered a "Jewish" name. I assume that in Netherlands, this was never considered an issue in the Jewish community despite the Xtrian connotations.
Are there any documents attesting to a name change, or was this just done on the ship when crossing the Channel?
