I have been trying to locate any solid documentation on William's parents. I am not even sure that his birth date and place are correct. I found a marriage notice for him and Catherine in the Indiana State Library which is where their first son was born. So, from William and Catherine down is good. The 1850 census shows William born in Kentucky in 1823. The 1870 census shows 1819 born in Virginia. Same wife and children but different births for him. No information on parents. At this point I think from his parents up as ancestry may be speculation and copied from other's information which I cannot locate where it came from. So, my question is, should the tree be left as is showing John and Mary as his parents or should it be split showing parents as unknown until such proof can be found with correct information ? If anyone already has the information I would appreciate it. William Purcell was a pretty common name and difficult to prove lineage without it.
