This Thomas Harris WAS NOT THE SON OF SIR WILLIAM HARRIS AND ALICE SMYTHE. Their son Thomas Harris died by 1617 in England UNMARRIED AND WITHOUT ISSUE. His 1616 Will, probated in 1617 clearly shows he was the actual son of Sir William Harris and Alice Smythe by naming all of his siblings in his will that agrees perfectly with the 1612 Visitations of Essex, the census for this family as recorded by the heralds of the College of Arms in London, except his Will does not mention his sister Alice Harris Mildmay who had committed suicide in 1615. This Will was published over two decades ago in "The Virginia Genealogist" Vol 38, May-June issue 1994. There never have been any proven parents for this Capt Thomas Harris of Jamestown but research is now centered on Aylesbury Parish in England where records of the family of his 1st wife Adria HOARE, the Anne Woodliefe named in his household as a kinswoman in the 1624 Muster, and on half of the other male inhabitants of the 1624 muster. The only few records of him having a daughter Elizabeth state that she married George Archer who is named as a brother in law in deeds to Maj William Harris, a proven son of Capt Thomas Harris by DNA. Don't feel bad as there are over 20,000 trees on ancestry.com that make this same claim for parents of this Capt Thomas Harris of Jamestown. Half of them claim he had a son Robert Harris who married Mary Claiborne which DNA has proven impossible. You can do an advanced google search on Thomas Harris + 1616 Will and find a copy on the internet. Hope this helps.
