from PageMayFam of Ancestry.co.uk re: "African-American Pitts Family/ Slaves of Hilary Pitts"
I was able to come across so far a list of slaves held by Hilary R Pitts (1754-1829), the patriarch of many of the Pitts in Worcester County in the 1800's. His will was signed on April 27, 1826 and executed by his son John R. Pitts. He also set dates in which he specified his slaves to be freed.
(Exceprt from Hilary Pitts Will: April 27, 1826; Worcester County Register of Wills Vol 27, pg 363-365)
To his Son William Pitts, given A "Negro Woman Rodah"
To his Grandchildren Caroline + Thomas (Children of Hillary Pitts Jr), given A "Negro boy Elijah" ( To be Freed 1/1/1840)
To his Son Robert Pitts: Given a "Negro Boy William" (To be Freed 1/1/1836)
To his Grandchildren Hettie, Carey, Molly Bell, Nancy Bell, Elizabeth Bell and Sally Bell: Given "One Negro woman Lydia", and "a Negro Girl Comfort" (Comfort was to be Freed 1/1/1846, and all her increases free at the age of 28).
The rest of the estate was Equally divided between daughters of his daughter Elizabeth Gray:
A "Negro Man Job" and a "Negro Man Jesse" (Both to be freed 1/1/1828)
A "Negro Boy Benjamin" (To be Freed 1/1/1843)
"Old Man Boatswaine" + "Old Man Abraham" (Both to be freed at his death)
