Being named Stewart and from the North of Ireland, was her family originally from Scotland?

I am trying to find Stewart's that came to Ireland from Scotland to help find my Gr Gr Grandfather John Stewart who

emigrated to the US in the 19th century through the port of Galway.

Best regards,

Michael T. Stewart

I followed the source cited and climbed "up" the tree.

http://thepeerage.com/p58382.htm#i583811 indeed of Scots background. But in Ireland a long time.

I believe that John Stewart's (1831-1909) family may have migrated to Ireland from Scotland. Whether or not as a commoner or farm help sometime after 1400.

Leaving the Highlands would probably require a great incentive to do so involving prosperity or survival.

Thank you for the source. I also found a good explanation of such migrations following the conquering of Ireland by England.
