It would be unlikely that a couple would have two sons with the same name unless one of them had died prior to the birth of the second. And then for those sons to die a day apart.

John Patrick Duffy born 1842 died October 27 1941
John Patrick Duffy born 1855 died October 26 1941

It is more likely that
* John Patrick Duffy died sometime after 1849 and prior to 1855
* John Patrick Duffy married Hannah Duffy

Can anyone add any source documentation on the two John's?

I have temporarily added their birth year into the suffix field so we can tell them apart

I would assume that perhaps, just like people have the same name as a parent, perhaps they decided to do this to two different brothers.

It is not something that usually happened in colonial australia. But not impossible.

Also not impossible that they then died a day apart.

John and Patrick are common names so they might also be cousins rather than brothers.

No source data which makes it more difficult to prove/disprove

This is certainly a conundrum,
John Patrick b1842 married in 1881 to Hannah Stanton and John Patrick b1855 also married in 1881 to Hannah Mary Stanton 508/1881 DUFFYJOHNSTANTONHANNAHSYDNEY is the only one listed.
both Hannahs were born 1860 and died 1927, both have the same children.
Sorry but I decided to delete John Patrick Duffy b1855 temporarily till this is solved,
I checked NSWBDM 1840-1860 for both John Patrick Duffys and the only one listed is Patrick Duffy 2823/1842 with parents Pat(rick) and Bridget, no listing for John Patrick b1855.

From what Private is saying, it shows that it might be a duplicate.
