Can we agree that; there is a transcription error here: http://yvng.yadvashem.org/nameDetails.html?language=en&itemId=4...
that as the birthdate is exactly the same this is the same person, deported, probably from Prague?

And add her to the project?

12/21/2016 at 2:18 PM

what project do you want to add her to ???

12/21/2016 at 2:19 PM

If you join the project - you can add her yourself ...

12/21/2016 at 2:19 PM

also - I cannot get your link to open anything other than a blank page ...

OK, sorry, two answers to two questions.
1. Yad Vashem can be glitchy.
If you care go to their names data base and search "Marie Porges"
When you scroll down you will find a Marie Porges (Flig) resided in, and presimably murdered in, Lodz Ghetto. There is no record of transport/deportation, but this Marie Porges (Flig) has exactly the same D.O.B. As my (geni) cousin Marie Porges Feig, born in Rudig/Vroutek.
I am a member of Lodz Ghetto project but would like other opinions as to whether I should add Marie's profile to it.

I believe the "Flig" was a transcription error, and I don't know why their is no record of deportation, but I am guessing this is the same person. Do you agree or disagree?

Hi guys, Marie survived, she was liberated in Bergen-Belsen. Check the Terezín Memorial Books. She was deported without her husband or daughter.
best, Anna

There are problems with the Yad Vashem database.

Some of those that they list as murdered, actually survived.

I have one of those in my family and the only way for them to correct it is to provide them with either a copy of a death certificate or a tombstone image.

Dr. Anna Hajkova, can you share a link to the Terezin Memorial Books? Or can one just google it? In my ignorance I do not know what it is.
And this is Marie Porges (Feig) born 10 10 1902 in Vroutek? Was she in Lodz Ghetto, (I don't find her family there either btw,) or is that a coincidence, or an error.
Thanks,
Jonathan

In the listing in Yad Vashem for Marie Porges (Flig) it lists her as a resident of Lodz Ghetto "presumed murdered." There is another listing which I believe is slso her, a testimonial from a cousin for a Mae(sp?) Porges deported to somewhere(unknown) from Prague also presumed murdered.

Dear Jonathan, no, the Memorial books are not online, they exist in hard copy. Yes, this is the right Marie, I checked.

Okay, so if I want to find out about my Czech ancestors and their relatives (since as a starting point because of Badatelna and Prager Tagblatt these are the ancestors and relatives I have some information about to begin with,) I should purchase the Terezin memorial book about Jews of the Czech Lands.

Also, if an ancestor/relative from Bohemia is listed in Badatelna, but NOT at holocaust.cz than, it is perhaps (as with Marie) because they survived Shoah, and I might could find (information about) them, in the Terezin Memorial books. ? (Since I started hanging out on Geni the game has been, find a Feig relative on Badatelna then go to holocaust.cz for death information. Unless its not there.)

Hi Jonathan, yes, basically, that is the case. The survivors you will find only in the printed books. I cannot tell you about that woman with a son Alexandr, I have no idea. If you want to streamline the process, I can set you with a Czech colleague who does freelance research. Have you looked at Randy's post on how to do Czech Jewish genealogy? best, Anna

Dear Dr. Anna Hajkova,
Thanks for your help.
I just sent an e-mail to the Terezin Institute asking how to order the books about Czech Jews.
I will contact you if I have more questions.
Best wishes,
Jonathan

Hi again Anna,
The link you shared contains a lot of good info but while it lists the Terezin Memory Book about Czech Jews for 300 Cz Koruna I can't find a link for purchasing the books at the site. Am I missing something? I sent them an e-mail on Thursday and have recieved no reply. Should I call them?
If you have any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks.
Jonathan

Those who survived are on an online database:
http://www.pamatnik-terezin.cz/vyhledavani/ghetto/

Search must be done using czech accents & names:
Příjmení: porgesová
Jméno: marie

Leads to this entry:
http://www.pamatnik-terezin.cz/vyhledavani/ghetto/detail.php?table=...

Although the database might seem to relate to Terezin, it is based on the Terezin memorial books, which also include direct deportations to Lodz

The data on her husband on was from the obituary of Marie's father

Gotta got to the computer for the thing on the r. The Ipad won't give it to me.
Is there a Czech-(German?Yiddish?) name translating book?
Best wishes,
Jonathan

yes, Guide to the Terezín Memorial Book, which is sold out. Includes lists of all Czech-german first names.

Anna, I have to admit that I did not find this "secret" database. Hanuš Grab told me about it.

Jonathan, to get Czech accents just find a web page, or whatever with czech writing, and copy and paste the letters. I expect you can do that from webpages on the Terezin site. In fact most, if not all, can be copied from the entry page itself:
http://www.pamatnik-terezin.cz/vyhledavani/ghetto/index.php

Okay, probably I am the only one who remembers this discussion but I'll start it again anyway.
I just visited the new Jewish cemetery in Prague and there is a beautiful gravestone for Marie and Ida's parents Heinrich and Auguste, (Go to Heinrich's geni profile I just posted a photo of it as his profile.)
Concerning the confusion over Hana Moravec and Hana Porges, here is more:
There is a small gravestone in front of the big one for Heinrich and Augusta, who both died of natural causes, (she just in time...) which in barely still readable carving, (I took photos of each individual word, my camera saw it better than I did,) states:
In memoriam, and then it lists, and I assume they all perished in Shoah;
one line:
-Ing. Karl, Ida and Hannika Moravec,
new line: Josef, Hanus, Porges
HANUS
We know from this discussion that Marie survived,
Hanus Porges?
https://www.holocaust.cz/en/database-of-victims/victim/115899-hanus...
I was never able to access the Terezin book concerning survivors but I have new contacts from my trip here.
I will follow up on this question.
The small gravestone is also almost illegible.
I will also look at jewishgen and see if anyone other than me has tried to transcribe it.
Heinrich died in 1931.
Hanus was not listed on the obituary.
I am betting that the Hanni Porges listed as born in Plzen in 1923 is someone else.
Hanićka and Hanus were cousins.
