@ William Bowes born circa 1350.

Is anyone able to tell me why, when I added a much earlier Bowes family member almost immediately I got this great swag of family tree updated. It was fine until I got to George then, suddenly, his father became Richard de la Hay? there were another five generations of de la Hay after that. I am reluctant to change anything because the last time I did I lost most of the correct tree as well. I hope someone can help.

It sounds like a merge.

If you look at the revision history of the profile you added in you might be able to see the merge.

Thanks. I'll try that tomorrow. Mind you, the family tree (from where it went wrong) looked pretty impressive. I was off to claim all my rich rellies.

Thank you again. Not being very computer literate these days (all the meds the docs have me on leading to early onset dementia is my excuse) I could not find the merge. My husband, bless him! found it in about five minutes and deleted all but one file that just would not go. It looks like I might have to have a blank (so far as one can make a blank entry)in the middle of my tree. It's a small price to pay for all the non-related people I did have. Hope you have a very happy Christmas and that the New Year will bring you all you desire.

Thank you, Marick
