To the managers of this profile:

I have been struggling to determine what should we use as the actual and display name for this profile. Among many variations, two clearly stand out:

"Jean-Baptiste Toupin, sieur du Sault"

and

"Toussaint Toupin dit Dussault"

For now, I chose to apply the former because of the quality of two sources:

1) Dictionnaire des Paroisses du Québec

2) Commission de Toponymie du Québec

https://www.geni.com/documents/view?doc_id=6000000047595238882&#

Number one is an official source from the Québec Clergy. Number two is an official source from the Gouvernement of Québec. It is hard not to give added weight to such official sources.

From these sources we learn that this profile was granted the concession of the "Seigneurie des Écureuils" in 1672.

These two sources state that the name of this profile is "Jean-Baptiste". The "Dictionnaire" states that the name of the parish established at that seigneurie, called "Saint-Jean-Baptiste-de-Écureuils" parish, was named in honour of the first owner "Jean Toupin, Sieur du Sault" (i.e. this profile). The "Commission" states that the concession was given to "Jean-Baptiste Toupin" and his son "Jean-Baptiste".

There are many other sources stating that this profile was named "Toussaint". I added this name in the aka field.

This is an open discussion. Between us, managers, let's explore this profile, see what other sources are there, weight together the evidence, and come up with a consensus on how this profile should be named based on evidence, and our judgement and experience.
