Hi, I have finished doing all the convicts on the "Alexander" and have updated the overview.

Most of the convicts do not currently have a GENI profile - primarily because no information about partners or children is known.
Rather than create an isolated profile, I have added the information I could locate on them into the overview.

Question 1 - Is it better to add this information here or just leave it with just their name?
Question 2 - For those that I could find partners and/or children should I create Geni profiles? (I would need a curator to assist to split them from the tree)

I will try to work on a ship at a time and connect all the Australian Pioneers.

I think (just my thoughts) leave info on project till profiles are created.

I just give myself another husband, click on his profile in tree view and then delete the relationship in the relationships tab to create an isolated person, hope this helps.

I also add to my software persons, and find matches and other trees that match them, I dont copy the trees, but look at the records they have attached and work from there.

Good method to work on a ship at the time, wish I could be that way, its like when I mow a lawn, "figure 8'ts" all over the place LOL

I do the jump around ships too. It is hard not to get sidetracked - so many of the early convicts/settlers have many duplicate profiles and had so many relationships and children it is hard not to get distracted.

Not being a pro user, I can't detach a person into a seperate tree but I have set up a couple of "dummy" profiles where I attach a person and then ask a friendly curator to detach for me.

I have been finding a convict and then looking at who their children married and then who their parents were - as they were most likely settlers/convicts too.

I can add some to the project, how many do you need?

Or you can add me to manager to hasten the seperation?

Looks like heaps! maybe you should be pro or ask for extra editing rights on immediate family to create them?

Erica Howton ?

I will hopefully be pro by Christmas - it's on my pressie list :)

Mines on my credit card, kids can pay it off after I am gone LOL Let me know if I can help with those profile creations, message me on it.

Great idea. Dont forget there were were a number of 'girlie' ships too. Many young girls were sent, either on trumped up or grosly exagerated charges because the UK authorities feared some guys who had served their time may return. I have fully researched one of mine (Sophia Clifton aged 17 of Brighton) who got 14 years for borrowing a 7 shilling dress to hide her workhouse uniform.

The clearances of young girls from poorhouses to be child brides were commonplace with an MP (called Miklethaite) stating it was justified because, "the parish workhouse could become a location for the propergation of bastards."

Hi Private User, I have found a few of them already - those poor young girls would have had no choices at all.

Which ship did Sophia come out on?

Sophia's tree is on Geni

She arrived in Sydney in 1839 and ended up by having 5 husbands. If you add her children to grandchildren, she increased the population of Oz by over 100. Not a bad return for a 7 shilling frock.

The ship was "MaryAnn" which arrived in Sydney on 10th November 1839,

An interesting study is to look at the UK 1841 census for parish workhouses near major UK sea ports. The number of young girls residing there that fall into the 15 to 25 age range is noticeably low. Another statement by Miklethwaite was the UK workhouses should, "rid themselves of these females, before they become sullied by the other inmates!"

In regards to "orphan" profiles, if you have any family for them, or they're notable, they deserve a geni tree. :)

We outlined several methods of getting a "spin off" tree started, so for anyone making these trees for the project, just post here with a link and the disconnect need, and we'll help.

Yes, pro's should be able to do the disconnect also for public profiles of a collaborator, so make sure you're collaborating.
