Willem was a prisoner of the 2nd Boer War and was in prison in Ceylon (Sri Lanka)

Hi Leon, I found the following via the Anglo Boer War museum in Bloemfontein and could you please confirm if it is one and the same person : Willem Johannes Groenewald - Served Middelburg Commando - Transvaal ID : 86517 Middelburg Concentration camp - Age 22 years Arrived : 22-2-1902 departed : 24-9-1902 left for the farm ' Nooigedacht ' Middleburg District.
Tent : 202 Block E - Surrendered at Middelburg on 27 February 1902 - ref : DBC 84 P145 camp register

Would you please confirm if this is one and the same person and do you by any chance have any dates for when he was a prisoner of war in Ceylon. Thanks a lot.

Hi David, no I do not have any dates, the only thing I have is a little jewelry box that he made in Ceylon with the inscription "Ceylon " "1902" . I know the Groenewalds come from the Belfast area so it is highly likely that if "Nooitgedacht" is in that area then it could be one and the same person. Although I thought Willem was younger at the time when he was in Ceylon- not based on any facts though.

Thanks Leon
