2. JOHNSTON STAPP & Allied Families-1979 pages 92-94. [a] James Lear m married HANNAH ______, purchased land in Culpeper County in November 1766. The land was sold by eldest son WILLIAM LEAR to James Pendleton in 1785. WILLIAM is mentioned in the Will. Children: [i] WILLIAM [ii] DAVID.
James and Hannah [Darnall] Lear children were: [1] William married 8 August 1786 Hannah Bailey, daughter of James & Hannah Bailey [2] John [3] Jesse Lear born 1759, died 1827 married [1st] Elinor Mitchell [2nd] Elizabeth Cox born 1769 died 1837. Married 1807. [4] Thomas Lear born 7 October 1769 died 1830. Married Mary Fagan born 14 November 1777. Married 15 Marcy 1793.[5] George [6] Jemima Lear married Owen Campbell in 1787. [7] Mary Lear married Theophilus Anderson, 27 October 1783 [8] Lavina Lear [9] Elizabeth [10] Susannah. Cannot list all of James and Hannah Lear’s children, but are sure a number of them went to Garrard County, Kentucky from Culpeper County, Virginia.
James Lear's Will mentions his wife Hannah. When his Estate was settled, one third with to Shadrach Chavieu, whom Hannah had married. Chavieu had died very soon after this, and no trace of what happened to Hannah. James Lear purchased land in Culpeper County in November 1766. The land was sold by eldest son William Lear to James Pendleton in 1785. William is mentioned in the will. We cannot list all of James and Hannah Lear's children, but are sure a number of them went to Garrard County, Kentucky from Culpeper County, Virginia [Pages: 102-103] 
JAMES LEAR'S WILL Culpeper County, Virginia Will Book B, page 24. IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I JAMES LEAR of the County of Culpeper being sick and weak of Body, but of perfect sense and memory so make & ordain they my last will and Testament in manner following. First and Principally I bequeath my soul into the hands of its divine Author trusting that through the merits and intersession of my blessed Saviour to receive Pardon & remission of all my Past sins and as to what worldly goods it hath pleased God to bless me with I dispose of the same in manner following---ITEM, it is my will and desire all my just Debts and funeral Charges is be first paid.-- ITEM, I lend my beloved wife HANNAH all my Estate of what kind soever during her widowhood to raise my small children on, but in case of her death or marriage I give the Land I live on to my eldest son WILLIAM and to his heirs forever, and the residue of my Estate I give one Third part of my wife and the remaining two thirds to be equally divided between all my children which shall then be living.--LASTLY, I do appoint my loving wife HANNAH and my trusty friend MR BUSHROD DOGGET executors to this my last will and Testament hereby revoking all wills by me made, In Testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this 28th day of February 1771---JAMES [his X mark] LEAR. The Will was probated at a Court held for the County of Culpeper on Monday the 15th day of July, 1771. This last will and Testament of JAMES LEAR dec'd was this day Exhibited to the Court by HANNAH LEAR, widow and relict of the said Decedent and BUSHROD DOGGETT the exors therein named and was proved by the oaths of JAMES PENDLETON Gent, and HENRY PENDLETON and ordered to be Recorded. 4. William Lear his oldest son - went to Garrard County, Kentucky after 1785, he sold his fathers land to James Pendleton in 1785 before he left for Kentucky. He may have married in 1802 in Garrard County, Kentucky to Elizabeth Graham..
