Might (Code1)James Roberts be the son of the James in the above who married Phebe Cahart?
¶ Also: It is worth paying attention to the fact that there are at least two James Roberts of the sam generation who are in the Northampton/Southampton/Bensalem area. Another is (Code17)James Roberts
Now that I've been at this investigation for many months, evidence has led me to build a tree for a Roberts family that starts with
William Roberts of Moreland
to
Timothy Roberts
to
James Roberts of Bensalem
and (possibly to a son James) THIS James of Bensalem who married Phebe Cahart
James Roberts, Jr.
¶ As we see in the screen shot, there is a James and a James Jr.:
https://www.geni.com/photo/view/6000000045315295957?album_type=phot...= . But, this is for 1820... SO... to make sense:
The line may go:
William1 > Timothy2 > James3 > James4 > James5
I cannot be certain at this time.
I just added James Roberts, Jr. to the WFT today... near relatives were of Bensalem, perhaps he was too..
Looking at https://www.geni.com/photo/view?album_type=project&photo_id=600...
we see James Sr and Junior... As I've wondered elsewhere... might James Jr. have married Charlotte Plumly?
More investigation of tax records... nothing conclusive.
Tax and Exoneration all in Bensalem
1781 = James 1 cow worth 8 (no land)
1783 = 96 acres (estate) + stock (9 shillings 6 pence)
1786 = 2 horses/2 cattle (no land) (no estate); his brother Timothy also recorded that year at 14 acres assessed (no mention of estate)
1786 = James taxed 2 shillings
1786 = James taxed 1s. 1d. ((why taxed twice?
1789 = James taxed 1s. 3d.
(other record)
1791 = James taxed zero s. 9d.
1793 = James 2 horses 3 cattle (taxed only 7d.
1796 = James {switches to dollars) $0.64 (64 cents); John Roberts (4 acres) $0.28
1798 = James and John… still about the same;
1799 = (ditto)
1800 = James and John …
1801 = James +
1802 = James
1805 !!! James suddenly has 118 acres and Rebecca Rue seems to be living there too ; new Stephen Roberts w/one cow
7.138: Richard Rue, Bensalem Twp. July 28, 1796. Proved February 7, 1806. Wife Rebecca and nephew James Roberts exrs. Nephews Joshua Rue, son of Bro. Samuel; Israel and James Rue sons of Bro. Joseph; Bro. Mathew, who has been maintained by me for many years to be maintained by nephew James Roberts, son of Timothy Roberts December'd., to whom I devise all my lands and residue of Estate.
Wits: Samuel Cox, Joseph Thompson, Nicholas Larzelere.
1808 = James Roberts still has 116 acres in Bensalem;James Robert’s Junior appears as a single man.
Frequently in the list next to his uncleRichard Rue, who had land he eventually deeded to James.
In the Bensalem Map of 1850: http://ancestortracks.com/PhiSur_Bensalem(Bucks)1850.jpg
we see Rue family near the top. Now admittedly this is several generations later but it may indicate where the Rue>Roberts land was located. It is also worth mentioning that, if the James Roberts, Sr. land was there, it put the family close to the Middletown township line and also some of the Plumly (as in Charlotte Plumy) family.
Phebe Saxton still remains elusive when it comes to trying to determine details about her father James.
SUBJECT: PLUMLY RELATIONSHIP TO THE RUE/ LARUE FAMILIES
Fran: While reading up on the Rue family, of which there seem to be so many branches, I stumbled on this: (in http://pagenweb.org/~bucks/BIOS_DAVIS/laruefamily.html )
"Daniel LaRue, with whose descendants this narrative is chiefly interested, was without doubt a son of Abraham and Alshe (Alice) Cresson LaRoe, or Le Roy of Staten Island, later of Hopewell, New Jersey. He was born on Staten Island in the year 1697, and was reared at Hopewell, where, as before stated he contributed to the support of Hopewell Presbyterian church in 1722. On June 15, 1751, the executors of Mark Watson, convey to "Daniel La Roe, of Hunterdon county, Province of West Jersey," 300 acres in Falls township, Bucks county, Pennsylvania, and on January 26, 1763, John Plumley conveys to "Daniel La Roe, of Falls township, Bucks county" 200 acres in Middletown township. He died in Middletown township, February 1, 1795, at the age of ninety-eight years, and is buried in the old Presbyterian burying ground in Bensalem. His wife was Ann Praul, who died October 23, 1776, at the age of sixty-two years, and is buried in the same cemetery. The will of "Daniel Larrew, the elder, of Middletown township, dated March 19, 1786, and proven February 16, 1795, devised to son Abraham, five pds, "he already having had his share" Son Daniel the plantation where the testator then lived, 200 acres "bought of John Plumley;”
This a rather an interesting coincidence as Charlotte Plumly is viewed by me to be the mother of Phebe Saxton (Roberts)…
All the more interesting as James Roberts (Sr.) of Bensalem’s mother is a Rue/Larue. James was born between 1737-1765 (census interpolation)
Charlotte Plumly’s grandfather was John Plumly.
Here is the extract form John Plumly’s will:
http://thegenproject.com/Mapping/Bucks_Unsorted_Wills.txt
4.322. John Plumly of Northampton, Yeoman. February 11, 1784. Proved March 13, 1784. Sons John and Edward, exrs.
Wife Ayels. note{~• aka Alice… as in Alice Heaton}
Sons William, Charles, Robert, George, Edward, and John. Daus. Mary, Susanna, Alice and Sarah Mitchener. Grandson John Gregg. Granddau. Anna Gregg. Wit: Jacob Vandegrift, Simon Vanarsdalen, John Rankin.
It should be noted that Daniel La Roe (sic) who purchased John Plumly’s 200 acres in Middletown, is not closely related Mary Roberts (Rue). As noted, there are several branches of the same Rue/LaRue family living in Bucks.
It should also be noted that there are more than one (at least three) John Plumlys of that era living in Bucks County.
Another development:
James Roberts SR. took over the RUE property in Bensalem c. 1805. The widow Rebecca Rue, James’ aunt, did not move out.

Review:
1) There are only two James Roberts in the US Census of 1810 for ALL of Bucks County.
1.5) The James of Northampton does not seem to fit. This leaves James of Bensalem.
2) Phebe Roberts is assigned to Charlotte Roberts because of the shared Plumly name. But, is Phebe Charlotte's Dau or step dau.?
3) Perhaps, as James' wife of 1810 was over 45, he remarried a younger woman (Charlotte Plumly) between August 7th,1820 and the date of James' death c. 1821
4) Phebe married not so many years later to Joseph Saxton and honored her step-mother by naming her 1st son Plumly Roberts.
5) The 1820 census no longer shows an older spouse and possibly no spouse at all.
