Hi Bonita:

Elizabeth already has a profile page at
Elizabeth Hopkins, II

She's not the half-sister of Caleb.

The dates of 1627 - 1676 aren't the dates of the the second Elizabeth daughter for Stephen Hopkins.
Regards, Shirley

Shirley: This is a total mystery to me. It's dated August 6th, 2016. As I just wrote in the letter to Erica Howton et al.... I hadn't even begun to look at any Hopkins profiles until August 19th, 2016 according to my records. This profile was created 2 weeks before then. I really can not understand how this possibly could have gotten there from me. I had no reason to be changing anything there at that time. I didn't even know Stephen Hopkins was my great grandfather until August 31st when I saw the name Damaris Cooke in the newsletter and figured it out. I can't believe I would have, at that time, or ever even tried to change anything around those Mayflower people.
It doesn't make any sense, nor do those dates make any sense. I really have no idea how it got there, or why I ever would have put it there, or where those dates could have came from! Also, I always put a source when I create a profile and there isn't one. Also, if I did create one and saw that there as another one already there I probably would have tried to merge them. It's like it came out of nowhere! I'm baffled Bonita

I merged them into existing profiles. Let me know if we need to get any others.

Bonita: Please post a link (URL) to your ancestor Damaris HOPKINS Cooke in a tree that isn't on Geni.com. We'll take a look at it.

OR if you don't have a tree make a list running down the descendants from Damaris by name (and date if there are a lot of duplicate names). You need to tell us how you know you're related to her so we can prove her for you.

What newsletter are you talking about where you saw her name?

Thanks.
Shirley

First Last, here is Bonita's path to Damaris on Geni.

https://www.geni.com/path/Bonita-Flanders+is+related+to+Damaris-Coo...

Also, if you're concerned about your name being public, you can turn that off under permissions. https://www.geni.com/account_settings/permissions/ Turn off "Let the public search for me (profile privacy settings apply)". That prevents your page from being indexed by Google and sets your name to <private> in the forum for the public. Your name would still be visible to Geni members.

Thanks for the link to the tree Jeff. Yes, I'll go private.

Bonita -- I don't know your family and haven't researched them but in a quick run-through there are some ouches along the line down from Damaris.

According to Geni.com

Joanna Rickard (1691-1767)
Joanna Dunham
has
2 fathers and
2 mothers.

Susanna Dunman (married Daniel Crocker) died in Oct 1763 per Geni.com and MA vitals. That's a given.

Geni.com says that Mehitable is their daughter and that she was born in 1786.

Mehitable Crocker (1786-1876) married Daniel Flanders. That's a given. They're on censuses with children and the kids have good records.

Susanna isn't Mehitable's mother. That's a given for 2 reasons. She was too old and she wasn't alive.

Daniel Crocker's 2nd wife, Abigail Roberts of Nova Scotia, probably isn't Mehitable's mother either since all of their known children were born in Nova Scotia.

Mahitable Crocker Flanders seriously thought she was born in Maine as shown on her 1850, 1860 and 1870 censuses (as did her kids on their later censuses and death records).

It appears as if Mehitable belonged to a different Crocker family who lived in Maine OR maybe she's the daughter of one of Susanna Dunham's Crocker children whose father moved to Maine?

Just watch out if you go to Ancestry Trees for help. Some trees are really goofy. Don't even look at one that has a marriage in "Vineyard". We know where that was invented. Try to stay clear of trees that copied "Ancestry Trees" as a source. Without records/documents/bible we don't know who her parents are. There are no hints at all supplied in the tree here.

Sorry.
Shirley

Fixed the parent conflict on Joanna Dunham. She was the daughter of John Rickard and Mary Cook.

Looking for Crocker's in that part of Maine during that period. I did see a Basset Crocker, that could be a good lead for a sibling or Mahitable.

Sorry Bonita, but I'm going to cut the connection on Mahitable. If we find that perhaps the dates are wrong on Susanna or some other connection, we can re-establish then.

Linda Kathleen Thompson, (c), FYI on the action taken above on Mehetable Flanders

The name Damaris Cooke appeared on August 31st in my "Latest Flanders Family
Updates" newsletter from geni.com. Like I said, that's when I looked into it and saw that she was a daughter of Stephen Hopkins. Before that I wasn't even looking for a connection to him for myself, just for my uncle, Ernest Hopkins (1895 - 1950).
Also, like I said before, when I traced him back to find that connection, geni.com led me to a point where I found a Stephen Hopkins' profile page with no "Mayflower Passenger" heading, no profile picture of the Mayflower, and no "about" information at all, and the wrong wife which I didn't even know at the time. His dates were OK when I looked him up on wikipedia.
As I said before, at that time, I added a little bit of wikipedia information about him on that page. I thought it was strange that there was no mention of the Mayflower on this page, but I wasn't even questioning it. I didn't change anything, or add anything else.
I stopped right there, adding no other connection to myself (because I wasn't even looking for one) and no other wife because I assumed the one that was already there was correct. It just wasn't that important to me at the time so I didn't pursue it any further.
Like I said, it wasn't until the name Damaris Hopkins appeared in the newsletter (the "Latest Flanders Family Updates" newsletter than geni.com sends me) that I even looked for a connection from him to myself and found that one at that time.
And about the Elizabeth Hopkins with the wrong dates...... I truly can not understand how that ever got there or where those dates came from. As far as I can tell I supposedly added that way before I even started looking for any connection to Stephen Hopkins and my uncle Ernest Hopkins at all. It was part of our family oral tradition that I even knew they were connected. The RI Hopkins family burial ground is right across the street from his house in Foster RI.
Also, as far as Susanna Crocker being Mehitable's mother..... I had been looking myself for a long time for her mother. I didn't add her. She appeared only when the Damaris Cooke connection appeared. In my Flanders family's (Maine) oral tradition, the name "Crocker" came up many times. That was one of the more common family names.
In fact, it took me a really long time to find Anna Crocker and her husband, my 4th great grand father, Enoch Flanders (1739 - 1810) on that I could complete that branch of my tree. It was a real stumbling block. I did a lot of research and finally found them.
Because they moved from MA to Ohio I kept coming to dead ends. Finally I made the connection and was able to link him back to Stephen Flanders 1. And, as far as ancestry.com is concerned, I am finding just as many errors on geni.com as I have been finding there. Lots of multiple parents, lots of duplicates with mis-matched dates, lots of biological siblings listed as half brothers and sisters, lots of wrong dates, lots of impossible dates....
For example, I just sent a message (on about September 6th) to one manager of Josiah Rickard, Gibby Brack, because I saw he had a wife listed, Rebecca, as being only one day old. She responded that is was supposed to be Rebecca Eaton, daughter of Benjamin Eaton (1627 - 1712) and Sarah Haskins (1737 - 1711). I copied what she wrote to me below, dated September 7th:

"Home of the World Family Tree
Dear Bonita,

Gibby Brack has replied to a message in your inbox:

Re: Rebecca Rickhard
I think what has happened here is that someone mistakenly merged Josiah Rickard to the wrong Rebecca. The woman he married on 11/21/1699 was Rebeckah Eaton b. abt 1675 d. 11/30/1770, who was the daughter of Benjamin Eaton (1627-1712) & Sarah Haskins (1637-1711).

Rebecca Rickard

Does anyone know how to fix the tree?

Kind regards,

There was no curator listed for his profile on that page at all, so I told her to contact the curator that was listed for his parents to fix it. I don't know what has transpired since. Maybe someone reading this could help her? I couldn't.
I am not complaining about all this. I would just like to set things straight as much as we all would. For the person who asked for my path to Damaris Cooke.....
From geni.com:
"First Last, here is Bonita's path to Damaris on Geni. from Jeff Gentes yesterday.
https://www.geni.com/path/Bonita-Flanders+is+related+to+Damaris-Coo...;
The actual URL itself appears below on this page in his message to me.
And as far as me trying to connect myself to the Mayflower passengers without Stephen Hopkins, there are still about another dozen or so that I'm related too, and others that I am descended from, ie. John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley are both my 8th great grand parents as is Francis Cooke, at least according. to geni.com so far.
I was not ever even trying to do that with Stephen Hopkins. Geni.com, through Damaris Cooke did that.
I am sorry for all this back and forth work that you all are sending me. I know it takes a lot of your time. If you want to disconnect me go right ahead. I certainly did NOT want to create this problem.

The children of Mehetable Flanders also need review as it is seems very unlikely that they are all her children, as they range from her age being 13-65
