The listing for John Smith's parents is incorrect. No one has ever given proof or any documents concerning his parents other than assumptions. Assumptions have no place in genealogy.

Ohboy. Without a link, how can anyone tell *which* John Smith you're talking about? (If it's the Jamestown guy, an obscure book, "Historye of the Bermudaes", republished in "Works Issued by the Hakluyt Society, Volume 65", claims to identify him with a "John, son of George Smith" baptized 6 January 1579/80 at Willoughby, Lincoln.) The book is said to derive from a manuscript possibly written by Smith and left incomplete when he died.

Hi Maven, So sorry about that. I haven't done a lot on Geni and am not really familiar on how it works and wasn't even sure where to put the info. Thanks for alerting me. The John I'm referring to is Rev. John Smith who came to America on the 'White Angel' to Barnstable, MA. He married Susannah Hinckley. He was born about 1614 and died 1710. I've done a lot of research on him, being a descendant and am also linked via DNA.
Like I said, I'm really not sure how anything on Geni works but I do think it's a great program. Best, Linda

You might want to talk to Erica Isabel Howton about that one - she knows more about early New England than I do. I specialize in points much further south (Anne Arundel County, MD and the lower Eastern Shore, especially Accomack/Northampton Counties, VA).
