what do I have to do to print out what I put together. is this going to cost me a fortune to join something, can I order a print out ?

It depends on how much you're trying to print. The tree view has a printer icon in the bottom right, clicking that gives you two choices:

1. a Family Tree Chart that is lovely but always only a butterfly chart that goes 3 generations on each side (paternal and maternal). You can download a high-resolution image of that chart and print it at home or take it to a printer if you want a large format.

2. The "basic print" which is pretty much exactly as you see it in the tree view, designed to span multiple printer pages. You can scale it to choose how many pages it will take, but obviously fewer = smaller print.

Our API enables a couple third-party options:

3. Prodigy Charting Companion can create all sorts of interesting charts from your tree. I don't know what they charge or what printing options are available.

4. The HistoryLink app creates an Ancestor Graph fan chart that can be saved as a PDF and then printed at home or taken to a printer if you want a large format.

thank you so much Mike, I am 67 trying to do this stuff by myself.....

My pleasure. There are many people here (including our curators) who are happy to help, so don't hesitate to ask if you have more questions!

Thank you for your offer I will ask another question since you are so helpful and willing I do not subscribe to Genie Pro do you know how much it would be and what are the benefits

The three major benefits to a Geni Pro subscription are:

1. Our advanced search engine. If you're just looking for a name and date, you can use Google (e.g. search for "geni brigham young 1801") but if you want to find Thomas Smith, married to Sarah, born between 1720 and 1800 -- we have a search engine for that, but it's a Pro feature.

2. Tree Matches. As you build your tree, we're trying to match what you've added to what's already on Geni. If we find a match, we put the blue magnifying glass on the tree (or the blue tree match button on the profile page) which, when clicked, leads you to a side-by-side comparison of your profile and the one we think it matches. From that screen you can choose to merge the profiles if they look correct to you. The match that joins your tree to the World Family Tree of over 105 million profiles is free, because that helps us too, however any matches after that (that would add onto other branches of your tree) are a Pro feature.

3. Priority support on help.geni.com -- our Customer Service team gives priority to help tickets created by Pro users.

Hope that helps!

Mike

Mike, do you know the cost ?

Yes, Geni Pro is $119.40 / year.

Thank you for all your information it is so much easier talking to someone who knows rather than reading and not understanding.
I would like to tell you my biggest fear about geni-com
It is that I will wake up one morning and find out that everything has been erased from my family tree because of some computer problem that Genie had and everyone's family tree is gone could this happen????

I'm worried about the same thing. I honestly hope that there are some serious backup measures that are in place.

We have master-slave databases for immediate availability. We have daily-partial and weekly full backups that are stored in our data center and backed up to a data center in another state. And of course we have our revisions system for reverting vandalism and the like.

Thank you, you people are the best, as a senior person, I wish your fee was a little less, but thank yu
