T.G. was in Williams Rifles of the 1st Virginia, which was right in the middle of the first group facing the Union during Pickett's charge at Gettysburg. He survived, but 1/2 of all those who fought in this charge were either lost, killed or captured. The Confederacy never recovered from this blunder of Lee's.
