Rev. Jesse Elledge was born in 1800. This is documented and also confirmed by census records in both Illinois and Iowa. He only married once, to Elizabeth Phillips.

He was NOT married to Adeline Hill.

Thanks, what about Adeline's children? Do they belong with him and Elizabeth Phillips or with her with a different husband?

Elizabeth Phillips/Jesse Elledge children: Andrew Alfred, Sarah Jane, Joseph Addison, Anna Maria, William Hunter, James Stapp. I descend from James Stapp.

Judge Betty Barry Deal did a lot of research on the children of Charity Boone and Francis Elledge. There seem to be two fallacies of the Thompson book that continue to resurface, (1) Jesse Elledge marrying Adeline, and (2) Nancy Elledge being the Nancy (maiden name unknown) who married a Mr. Norris and had four children then married Jesse Elledge's father-in-law Nimrod Phillips. Nancy Elledge dau of Charity and Francis married Nimrod's brother Dr. Nathan Phillips...

Now to answer your question. There are four children that Thompson attributes to Adeline and Jesse: Charity b. 1794; Adeline b. c1823; Daniel Boone; and Martha.

Charity b. 1794 turns out to be the daughter of Francis and Charity. She is Jesse's older sister.

Adeline Elledge was born in Tennessee. She is the daughter of James Elledge (Jesse's older brother) and she married Isaac Woodward. Judge Deal found an affidavit dated 21 Oct 1851 Grant County, Wisconsin by Polly McCoy (Elledge, Chandler) stating the children of James Elledge were Lucy Underwood, Adeline Woodward, Matilda Meyers, Nathan Boone Elledge. James also left a will.

Daniel Boone Elledge is the son Isaac Elledge (Isaac is the son of Thomas).

Martha Elledge is the daughter of Nancy Elledge and unknown. Nancy, being the daughter of Charity Boone and Francis Elledge, and sister of Jesse, and later married to Dr. Nathan Phillips. An Elledge Bible noted that "Martha S Elledge b. Feb 28, 1812 dau. of Nancy Elledge". I'm pretty sure I saw it in another source, but can't find it at the moment. Martha may have been living with Jesse and Elizabeth in 1830 census (extra female 10-15 range).

Great resource was MSS 400, Oregon Historical Society, Jesse Scholl Diary & Notebook. He listed marriages, relationships, birthdates, including Rev Jesse Elledge's birthdate ... 1800.
