Subject: [ROBERTS] Part 1 EDWARD ROBERTS MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2000 23:29:03 -0500

I have a little book (45 pages) I picked up several years ago and going
through my small library I found it....again. Here is a scanned copy of
one family in two part. Hope the OCR did it's job.
Others will follow.
Title == Roberts Family History
by == J. Montgomery Seaver
Published == American Historial-Genealogical Society in Philadelphia
No Date but the lastest day that I found was 1927 in references where
the Who's Who in American of 1926-27 is listed.
DESCENDANTS OF EDWARD ROBERTS
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA
First Generation
H 142 I--EDWARD ROBERTS, the progenitor of this family in America, was
born in Wales about 1690 and died in Providence Township, Phila-
delphia County, Pennsylvania, now Lower Providence Township,
Montgomery County. His will was proved January 16, 1753. The
original Roberts homestead was near the present town of Eagle-
ville, about twenty-one miles northwest of Philadelphia. From
the
top of the hill above Eagleville one can see lands in seven
Counties,
the view being considered one of the most beautiful in the
State. A
few of the families who settled in this region with whom certain
of
the Roberts have blood ties are Lane, Rambo, Bull, Pawling,

Pugh.

a. Samuel Roberts, who married Catherine Francis (`i), March

ports that the seal on the will of Samuel Roberts has a bird
on a design which is apparently heraldic. He divised one
plantation to a son, Samuel, and one to Amold. Previously
he had conveyed a plantation to a son, Edward.

I am always changing my mind as to which Roberts household is the best candidate.
Here's what I think as of Aug 15 2016 > Phebe Saxton (Roberts) now looks to be the granddaughter of Pvt. John Roberts, page 47. I say this because of the proximity of the Plumleys, Hagermans, & Roberts on the 1790 and 1810 census data; as well: Joseph, page 47 seems to be Pvt. John's son. Joseph's wife may have been a Plumley.... or Pvt. John's wife may have been a Plumley... I should look in the burials at Neshaminy cemetery for more Plumley names...{Pvt. John was buried at Neshaminy}

Take a look at the document on the 1790 census attached to this project:
Pick out all John and Joseph Roberts-es (esp. page 47)!

Subject: Wrightstown in the early year and ROBERTS:
See: http://files.usgwarchives.net/pa/bucks/history/local/davis/davis16.txt
"When Wrightstown was laid out into a township a mile square townstead,
about in the centre of it, was reserved by the Proprietary, whose
intention is thought to have been to devote it to a public park for the
use of the township. It was surveyed in 1695. At the end of thirteen years
the inhabitants became dissatisfied with the reservation, and on petition
of the land-owners the Proprietary allowed it to be divided among the
fifteen men who owned all the land in the township. This was according to
the terms of a deed of partition executed in 1719. These fifteen
land-owners were Smith, Penquite, Parsons, Lumley, Stuckbury, Vansant,
Johnson, Pemberton, Ambler, Trotter, Clark, John, Abraham and Joseph
Chapman, and Nicholas Williams. James Logan agreed to the terms for the
Penns, and John Chapman surveyed the square, which was found to contain
658 acres, one-tenth of the area of the township. In 1835 Doctor C. W.
Smith made a survey of the original boundaries of the square, which he
found to be as follows: "Beginning at the east corner of the park at a
hickory tree in the line between Benjamin Lacey's land and Isaac Chapman's
land; thence south forty-three and a quarter degrees west along the said
line-fence, to Edward Chapman's land; crossing said land and crossing the
Durham road north of his house; crossing the farms of Charles Thompson and
Garret D. Percy; following the line between the lands of Charles Hart and
Mary Roberts to a stone, the corner of Mary Roberts' and Albert Thompson's
land, this being the south corner of the park; thence north forty-six and
three-quarters degrees west, along the line between Mary Roberts' and
Charles Gain's land, crossing the Pineville and Richborough turnpike road
about one-fourth of a mile below Pennville; crossing Charles Gain's land
following the north-west line of the old graveyard lot; crossing Mahlon W.
Smith's land, joining in with and following the public road in front of
his house, and crossing lands of Abner Reeder and John Everitt; then
following the public road leading to Carver's mill to an angle in said
road, the corner of Sackett Wetherill's and Jesse Worthington's land, this
being the west corner of the park; thence north forty-three and a quarter
degrees east, crossing lands of Jesse Worthington, Benjamin Lair and
Edmund S. Atkinson, and following the line between Edmund S. Atkinson's
and Thomas Martindale's land, crossing the land of William Smith north of
his buildings, to a point between William Smith's and Thomas Warner's
land, this being the north corner of the park; thence south forty-six and
a quarter degrees east, across Thomas Warner's land, south of his
buildings, across William Smith's lands, thence crossing lands of Thomas
Smith, Joseph Morris, and Benjamin Lacey, to the place of beginning."

My though about the above is that Mary Roberts is probably a widow in 1835 when Doctor C.W. Smith had the survey done.

If the link between the Rue family and the WILDMAN FAMILY is to be soon proved, it is worth a mention that these Rues are related to the other side of my family... the van Beurens: https://www.geni.com/path/Michael-M-van-Beuren+is+related+to+Mary-R...

"the offspring of William is : Father of Frances Plumley; Anna Plumly; Sarah Feaster (Plumly); Amos Plumly; Mary Plumly; Charlotte Plumly; John Plumly; William Plumly; Edmund Plumly and Frances Plumly"

One of these female offspring may be the wife of Pvt. John Roberts of Warwick... (I can hope... !) :)

Owen Roberts of New Britain ...family:
Under the confiscation act of March 6, 1778, a number of persons in this county lost their estates for remaining loyal to the British crown. Among these may be mentioned:
Gilbert Hicks and Joseph Paxson of Middletown
John Ellwood and Andrew Allen of Bristol
Samuel Biles and Walter Willett of Southampton
Richard Swanwick, John Meredith and Owen Roberts of New Britain
Evan Thomas, Jonathan Jones and Edward Jones of Hilltown
Peter Perlie of Durham
John Reid and John Overholtz [Overholz*] of Tinicum.

Some of these estates were valuable, that of John Reid containing 1,412 acres. A considerable amount of money was realized to the treasury from these sales. A record in the surveyor-general's office, Harrisburg, contains the names of 26 Bucks countians who were required to purge themselves of treason to prevent confiscation, but probably only few of them were proceeded against. The commissioners for this county under, the confiscation act, were George Wall, Jr., Richard Gibbs, John Crawford, and Benjamin Siegel [Siegels*].

GENERAL NAME CLUE: (Modern) Brown Drive and Addis Drive lie next to each other just south of Union cemetery (development road names in a subdivision of what must have been large BROWN and ADDIS farms. It was the Addises that gave the land for Union Cemetery and Joseph Saxton was the 1st burial. "Tanyard Rd." is a good candidate name for a shoemaker's interest (Saxton family)

While were on the topic of roads of the general area: There is a Roberts Rd, Warminster, PA 18974..... perhaps linked to Pvt. John Roberts' family.
