Wolina = Wolanow or Volhynia

My great-grandparents came from somewhere written down as "Wolina". I've always thought this was the town of Wolanow, outside of Radom, especially because their passports were stamped in Radom before they immigrated to the US.

However, now I see that Wolina can also be a name for the province of Volhynia.

Has anyone else come across the ambiguity? Any ideas how I might resolve it?

I also had "Wolina" written down as a place of residence. And then later came to learn of the town--Novohrad-Volynski (meaning "New Town of Volin"). So at least mine had Wolina in the name of the town also.

I just discovered there is actually a Wolina, Poland too; it looks like it was in Galicia, South of Volhynia.

That makes five; I wonder how I will ever figure this out!

I known that my great grandparents and other probable relatives who were on the same vessel were said to be from "Wolin" and by that it was meant what is called Volhynia.

Look at other relatives if there are any.

My ancestors were called Wolownianski, assume this is where they were from .they were fishermen..

I'm not sure about that.
My first guess would be Volovets ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volovets )
