I was raised in southern Alberta adjacent to the Blood Indian reservation. Being a rural kid I mingled occassinally with kids from the reservation. They left during the winter to attend Church run government schools. The name Poundmaker is familiar. An old man living in a small cabin down at the junction of the St Mary's river and Lee Creek, told stories of before the white men came. They were mostly of village life and big events such as the massive die off from small pox. Chief Red Cloud's monument is on the Mcleod Highway near the Belly River. The Blood Tribe has many elders that tansfered this oral history to the young generations. I hope it is not being lost.
