James "Jacques" Pineo - Escape from the King's men

Terence: James Jacques Pineo is my 5th great grandfather. Our family lore is that James Jacques Pineo was a French Huguenot, a group of French protestants who were much persecuted by the Roman Catholic majority in France. Wikipedia has a fair account of the movement at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huguenots. This article points out that Huguenot rebellions in the 1620s prompted the abolishment of their political and military privileges. Wikipedia also has a good description of a series of Huguenot rebellions in the 1620's just as opportunities for colonization were opening in New England, America. Huguenot settlers immigrated to the American colonies directly from France and indirectly from the Protestant countries of Europe, including the Netherlands, England, Germany, and Switzerland. Before the Mayflower sailed to America the French already had established a presence in Quebec, but that presence was dominated by Roman Catholics so was not an appeal for Huguenots who looked further south to New England instead.
